GREENHOUSE BULLCRAP
Blog
of Anti Global Warming News

Latest (Fourth
)  Blog
NOTE:  I had to split this blog into 4 - it was getting too big. -
Now see also my Bigpond Blog - HERE
A running anti-news news blog - for those who don't  accept something as true just because it is repeated ad nauseam in the Media.

SORRY - BIT  SLACK ON THIS BLOG NOW - GO TO MY - "BIGBLOG" HERE - http://greenhousebullcrap.bigblog.com.au/index.do

9/5  The BBC Try To Explain. The BBC environment reporter, faced with mounting evidence of global cooling tries to explain away why the computer models were wrong. Thats fine, but-
THE WHOLE BLOODY GLOBAL WARMING FIASCO IS COMPLETELY, TOTALLY, WHOLLY, UNEQUIVOCALLY, DEPENDENT ON COMPUTER MODELS!!!
Sorry for shouting, but it really is exasperating. No computer models - No Global Warming.
This Greenie environment writer then has the gall to acknowledge what cynics have said from the start - computer models cannot resolve clouds. They were predicting climate catastrophe with computer models which still cannot resolve cloud behaviour.
Read the mea culpa here - "Climate prediction: No model for success" - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7381250.stm

8/5  How NASA's Hansen Fixes The Data. Or why I don't trust GISS or the Goddard Space Institute run by James "I'm Being suppressed By Deniers" Hansen.
When you've been making a big name and a lot of money for yourself predicting the end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it and your data suddenly shows the opposite, it is very tempting to just "fix" the data.
To it's great credit The Hadley Climate Center, even amid the current UK hysteria, has resisted that temptation, but Hansen has not. Like all fanatics if the data disagrees with the dogma then it must be a temporary glitch in the data which can just be smoothed out.
Lets all hope that he finally discredits himself so much that he fades out from the media completely.
Read all about it -

and

8/5  The Gall of Gore!  One would think that when he put hurricane Katrina on his poster and claimed the disaster as Global Warming and since then hurricanes have virtually stopped in the USA, big Al would have learned his lesson, but no, here he's popped up again - yes, you guessed it - claiming the Burma Disaster. The science is, of course, that hurricanes and all other storms rely on a large temperature/pressure difference, NOT an overall warming or cooling of the planet.
"Al Gore Calls Myanmar Cyclone a 'Consequence' of Global Warming" - groan -  http://www.businessandmedia.org/articles/2008/20080506160205.aspx

7/5  j = σ T⁴.   Want some extremely esoteric scientific jargon? Read this - "Average temperature vs average irradiance" - http://motls.blogspot.com/2008/05/average-temperature-vs-average.html

btw that's The Stefan-Boltzmann equation.

Of course - silly me!! Unfortunately, the science has been "settled" so nobody is listening to them anymore (if they ever were!).
Superstition has triumphed.

7/5  Latest Satellite Global Temp.
The latest Global satellite temperature data (for April) is in.
Bad news for the Alarmists.
The bounce back up has stopped. Global cooling concerns continue.
"RSS MSU LT Global Temperature Anomaly for April 2008 - flat" -  http://wattsupwiththat.wordpress.com/2008/05/05/rss-msu-lt-global-temperature-anomaly-for-april-2008-flat/

7/5  More and More Trivial Pap. Global Warming relies on a constant stream of sensational little tidbits, but even the modern media must preserve some credibility. As the Arctic and Greenland ice bounces back,  Antarctica sets new records for ice extent, the global temperature refuses to rise and has now started falling and the Argo Buoy data refuses to confirm what it's supposed too, all the UK media environmental reporters will become more and more desperate to keep up the flow. So here's what we get -"Surge in fatal shark attacks blamed on global warming" -  http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2008/may/04/wildlife.climatechange . I rest my case.

4/5   It's Official - whoopsie - the Globe seems to be cooling - but don't worry Greenies, a new computer model predicts it will get catastrophically warmer later!
A new computer model? - what happened to the old ones?
The old computer models, on which the IPCC based the whole doomsday theory, are just casually discarded. That's the beauty about models - when you don't like the old ones you just make new one!
The IPCC was obviously wrong about "natural forcings" being irrelevant as well. Natural forcings are back with a vengeance!
How much more bullcrap are we expected to take from these people? They just keep getting it wrong don't they?
The elephant-in-the-room is. of course. that if the Globe can just cool for 10 years as we continue to pump out CO2 at an almost exponential rate, then we obviously can ignore the whole Global Warming alarm - climate change is here and is happening now and it is not human!!!
Mother Nature has made fools of the Greenies yet again!
To labour the analogy a little, the rhino-in-the room is what is really controlling the global temperature? - what causes the El Nino/La Nina phenomena? Is Helios more powerful than Gaia? Don't mention the war - or the Sun!!!

Senator Inhofe  rejoices here - "BREAKING NEWS: 'Global Warming Will Stop,' New Peer-Reviewed Study Says Global Warming Takes a Break for Nearly 20 Years?" -  http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Minority.Blogs&ContentRecord_id=a17defa8-802a-23ad-4912-8ab7138a7c3f&Issue_id

3/5  China, India, and now Russia smile indulgently, pat the euro greenie movement on the head and just ignore them. Perhaps one day China, India, and  Russia will be so wealthy that they can afford such decadent self abuse also, but not yet. This century will belong to them.
"Russia says has no plans to cap carbon emissions
" - http://www.guardian.co.uk/feedarticle?id=7489862
"Russia will not accept binding caps on its greenhouse gas emissions under a new climate regime, currently being negotiated to succeed the Kyoto Protocol after 2012, top officials said on Monday."

2/5  Not Happy Helen! As we Aussies prepare to follow them down the carbon trading path, New Zealanders prepare to pay about $1000 per household for being politically correct - no other reason - the globe's stopped warming and may be getting colder - but as they compete for food and fuel with the nouveau riche in china and India, Kiwis are all expecting everyone else to pay - not them personally.

29/4  This Sydney Morning Herald item - "Extreme weather is here to stay" - Ben Cubby, Environment Reporter - http://www.smh.com.au/news/water-issues/extreme-weather-is-here-to-stay/2008/04/27/1209234655241.html - exemplifies one of the real tragedies of Global Warming - the real science is being suppressed.
Instead of Professor Matthew England, co-director of the Climate Change Research Centre at the University of NSW, warning us that the sunspot activity has virtually stopped and that the next solar cycle has just not started, and the global satellite data shows not only no warning, but now a distinct cooling and that we should be prepared for the strong possibility of a lot more rain and snow and colder temperatures and even another "little ice age" what do we get?
We get what we deserve when we set the good professor up in a fancy office in a multi-million dollar research center and pay him and his colleagues millions of dollars to research "Global Warming".
He's not going to tell the SMH environment reporter that the globe stopped warming and probably won't start up again for quite some time.
Tell ya what, though, I'll bet that he and his colleagues are all lining up a new sinecure!!

27/4  Cardinal Pell writing in "The Sunday Telegraph" Points out some salient facts to consider.
"Politicians sceptical of these claims would need unusual courage to resist the strong tides of public opinion.  However the rest of us are not so constrained and we should consider all the available information.
Three points are of some significance... "

26/4  Science.
"Internal Radiative Forcing And The Illusion Of A Sensitive Climate System“ by Roy Spencer University of Alabama at Huntsville
http://scienceandpublicpolicy.org/reprint/illusion_of_sensitive_climate_system.html
"Many of us, especially those who were trained as meteorologists, have long questioned the climate research community’s reliance on computerized climate models for global warming projections. In contrast to our perception that the real climate system is constantly readjusting to internal fluctuations in ways that stabilize the system, climate models built upon measured climate behavior invariably suggest a climate system that is quite sensitive - sometimes catastrophically sensitive — to perturbations such as those from anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. Unfortunately, it has been difficult to articulate our ‘hand-waving’ concerns in ways that the modelers would appreciate, i.e., through equations."

26/4  Do We Aussies Really Want This UK Mess?
UK Telegraph - "'Useless' green levy on drivers rakes in £4bn"
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/04/24/nlevy124.xml
"However, the Telegraph has seen Treasury projections which disclose that while the amount raised from car tax will more than double - from £1.9 billion to £4.4 billion by 2010 - carbon dioxide emissions from motoring are expected to drop by less than one per cent."

UK Independent - "Dominic Lawson: The staggering cost of renewable energy"
http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/dominic-lawson/dominic-lawson-the-staggering-cost-of-renewable-energy-813350.html
"According to Mr Golby, meeting such a commitment will involve an increase in electricity generating costs of about £10bn per year; this is equivalent to almost £400 per household – or, in the roughest terms, an increase of about 40 per cent in annual electricity bills. Try selling that to the British public; and, of course, the Government hasn't..."

26/4  Where is Solar Cycle 24?
"The next 11-year cycle of solar storms (known as Solar Cycle 24) was predicted to have begun in autumn, 2006, but it appears to have been seriously delayed [see: ‘Spotty Science’, November 21]. It was then expected to take off in March last year, and to peak in late-2011, or mid-2012. But, as you can see for yourself from the image, the Sun remains spotless, except for one fading spot. This delayed onset has somewhat confused the official Solar Cycle 24 Prediction Panel, leaving them evenly split on whether a weak or a strong period of solar storms now lies ahead.
Other scientists, however, are more concerned... "

26/4   US Senator Inhofe on the proposed USA Carbon Trading Bill - just substitute "Australia" for "America" - "The United States Senate will soon begin to debate a global warming cap-and-trade bill that, if passed, would impose severe economic constraints on American families and American workers for no environmental gain. We have had this debate before, starting with the rejection of the Kyoto Protocol in 1998, then again in 2003, and again in 2005. Each time, these cap-and-trade measures were defeated for two simple reasons: they did not include developing nations; and because of the significant economic impact on the American public. With the American economy facing troubles, now is certainly not the time to try this costly experiment."
Very good stuff from an elected representative.  Published in "The Washington Times" - read it here - http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Minority.Facts&ContentRecord_id=777d68fb-802a-23ad-4c89-67667f412585

22/4  Sinister Forces Attack US Power Supply. And They're not Arab Terrorists! The evil Sierra Club again. 16/4   Japan's Guilt Money. While the global output of CO2 rises almost exponentially Japan buys its way out of Kyoto,
"Japan Ups CO2 Offset Buying As Nuclear Power Slows" - http://www.planetark.com/dailynewsstory.cfm?newsid=47959&newsdate=15-Apr-2008
So what's a carbon offset I hear you say?
Why, It's the biggest racket ever invented.
Example 1 - The farmer who is paid to not clear his land.
Example 2 - Planting trees which only fix carbon when they grow and then release it again when they rot or burn.
Example 3 - The Russians take the billions of yen from Japan and use it to dramatically increase their own carbon output in blatant disregard for Kyoto!
The list is very long - see below.

16/4  The British Antarctic Servey has published this interesting paper in which it hides a huge amount of bad news for alarmists in amounts politically correct waffle. "Climate Change - Our View" - here - http://www.antarctica.ac.uk/bas_research/our_views/climate_change.php

15/4   How They're Defending Themselves.  This is The Spin. Faced with the down-turn in temperature and up-turn in precipitation  - "Climate experts predict temperature drop" - UK Telegraph - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.jhtml?xml=/earth/2008/04/10/eaclimate110.xml .
Basically they blame it on La Nina in the Pacific - quite what causes the la Nina/El Nino phenomena is not discussed - they do correspond with sunspots but that is politically incorrect of course.
The Telegraph then claims that the floods and storms that have come with the down-turn in global temperatures are caused by - yes - you guessed it - Global Warming - with the wonderfully specious argument that it may be getting colder now but it is still warmer than 1961 to 1990 - yes 1961 fer crissake! The Tele never worries about insulting the gravitas and intelligence of it's readers for good reason I suppose!
So the global temperature plunges way down below average and we get freezing cold winters thick snow and floods but it's all caused by Global Warming.
Mmmm.
Of course the elephant-in-the room is that there is now no need to panic. "Natural forcings" were dismissed by the IPCC as irrelevant, but here they are,  back with a vengeance!!
Despite our continuing, almost exponential, output of CO2 the Planet seems to be self-regulating very nicely thank you.

12/4  Self Destruction. We elected a Kevin07 but we got the ALP left. Nobody controls them! This complaint from our biggest exporter will only encourage them more!
"Don Voelte, the head of Woodside, which operates the North West Shelf gas project, Australia's biggest resources development, said while the Government was saying trade-exposed industries would have transitional arrangements under the scheme, there were no details and no evidence that such a plan could work."
Read it here -  "Woodside finds carbon scheme lacking" -   http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,,23514872-2702,00.html

11/4   AL Gore Pontificates - New.  I don't know about you but I find the evangelism of this latest talk - click here - http://www.ted.com/talks/view/id/243 really quite chilling. It is just so dangerous, ignorance and superstition and self righteousness is a very alarming mix - and the liberties and contempt for science are really quite appalling - puts creationists to shame.

We are supposed to be facing the imminent end-of the-world-as-we-know-it and what new evidence does he have? Nothing. Yes nothing.
  • He cites Arctic sea ice - again. WRONG. Arctic sea ice extent is bouncing back up. Antarctic sea ice just set a record extent. He flippantly says "comes back in winter" well if it "comes back in winter" how is it Global Warming!!! Oh it's only thin - it "comes back" every winter, but it's only thin "its vulnerable" vulnerable to what?!  Perhaps we should just wait until it doesn't come back in winter before we cite it as "Global Warming". Groan.
  • But wait! It gets worse. This supposed lack of ice in autumn, which always comes back in winter anyway, is putting pressure on Greenland - What?! Putting pressure on Greenland fer crissake! Like, uh, HOW?!
  • Then he quickly mentions the Antarctic melt water - another annual event which is perfectly normal - in fact slightly less now. Groan again.
  • Then he resorts to comparing Earth and Venus. He makes an elementary mistake - all the Earth's carbon is tied up in limestone and other carbonaceous  rock - the atmosphere and fossil fuels are actually very trivial in proportion.
  • Then he makes another elementary mistake - Planet Mercury is cooler than Venus - yes - but that's because it has no atmosphere - it's like saying the Moon is cooler than the Earth. It depends if you're in light or shade! Earth and Venus have atmospheres, but Earth's is very thin - mostly nitrogen - while  Venus' is very thick - mostly CO2 and it receives much, much, more heat than Earth (watts per square meter decreases logarithmically from the Sun).
  • Then he spouts an outrageous LIE. Skeptics do NOT claim that Earth's temperature is regulated by variations in energy from the Sun. They claim that variations in sunspot activity cause the solar wind to vary and the solar wind decreases the cosmic ray flux and that reduces cloud cover - more clouds cool the planet and vice versa. This mechanism - confirmed experimentally - explains the FACTS (as opposed to Al's G. W. THEORY) that the Earth's temperature very closely follows both sunspot activity and volcanism and that cooling is always coincident with increased precipitation..

9/4  BBC Egg on Face!!! In a stupid bite-the hand-that-feeds them move, Greenies have severely embarrassed the BBC environment dept., by posting a private email..
These links show the embarrassing Email exchange behind the altering of the BBC News item, mentioned below, to satisfy the fanatics - an interesting expose' of how we skeptics are affecting them.

9/4  Antarctica - More Good news. Too late for a media retraction I suppose! Yes that huge Iceberg was NOT the Wilkins Ice Shelf breaking up - Satellite data measuring meltwater, confirms the satellite data reporting a cooling southern hemisphere and a record sea ice extent down there last winter.

9/4  Solar Cycle Update. "Solar cycle minimum at the earliest in second half of 2008?"
SC24 = solar cycle 24
"The start of SC24 is not to be expected prior to July 2008, and in all likelihood might even take place only in the first half of 2009. This conclusion matches perfectly the results one can make from evolution of the number of spotless days. Nonetheless, SC23 would be one of the longest in over 100 years, possibly even in over 160 years."
That's good news for G.W. skeptics and snow bunnies but unfortunately very bad news for all humanity in mid to high latitudes.

8/4   A very good assessment of Climate Change politics by Brad Norington in "The Australian" - http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,23487282-11949,00.html  The ALP & Unions are far from united on it - quite a few skeptics apparently.

8/4  So Orwellian!  World Health Day. The UN WHO, having been taken over by Greenie activists, tries to improve the health of billions by demanding that they stay in abject poverty as noble savages until they can afford wind turbines, solar panels, compact fluros and biofuels - yeah right!
Well there's too many of them anyway! They'll just have to do the decent thing and die - die to save the planet.

The point being that Al is in it for a quid and see the huge amounts of money involved in the Global Warming/Alternate Energy business now.

8/4  Bizarre. There's not much in this story  - "Earth in crisis, warns NASA's top climate scientist" - Terra Daily - http://www.terradaily.com/2007/080407011650.dyqm0pmz.html  - except just how shrill James I'm-being-suppressed-by-deniers Hansen is becoming as his own global temperature data resists his attempts to prop it up and just continues to fall.
What is truly remarkable however, is that he is there with his hand out for US$50,000 with our John Howard!!!

""It's analogous to an engineer who sees that there's a flaw in the space shuttle before it is to be launched. You don't have any choice. You have to say something. That's really all that I'm doing," he explained.
Hansen was in Wilmington to receive a 50,000 dollar Common Wealth Award for outstanding achievement, along with the former prime minister of Australia John Howard, the US actress Glenn Close, and NBC news anchor Ann Curry.
Howard, who would not sign the Kyoto protocol when he was in office, told AFP: "I thought it was the right policy at the time because the major emitters" were not on board."
He added: "You need a new Kyoto protocol with all the major emitters committed to it. Then you are cooking with gas.""

Now that's really balancing things out, John Howard and James Hansen! (Should say, to use Hansen's own analogy - he is delaying a Shuttle launch for nothing - the globe stopped warming and he knows it!)

7/4  Lord Nigel Lawson, former UK Chancellor. Zealotry over global warming could damage our Earth far more than climate change. A good essay.
"The new religion of global warming, however convenient it may be to the politicians, is not as harmless as it may appear. Indeed, the more one examines it, the more it resembles a Da Vinci Code of environmentalism. It is a great story, and a phenomenal bestseller. It contains a grain of truth - and a mountain of nonsense". Lord Nigel Lawson, former UK Chancellor the Exchequer.

7/4  Et tu CO2 - then Global Warming - die!  First the freezing cold winters, then the global satellite record, then the global sea ice data, then the Argo buoy data, and now Mauna Loa carbon dioxide data has turned on them.
Early days yet, but "less rapid warming" aka cooling has led to "less rapid" CO2 rise - aka dropping?. Not a good time for alarmists!
"CO2 monthly mean at Mauna Loa leveling off, dropping?" - click here -   http://wattsupwiththat.wordpress.com/2008/04/06/co2-monthly-mean-at-mauna-loa-leveling-off/
and here for the NOAA data - http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/gmd/ccgg/trends/

7/4   I Was Hoping This Would happen. The smart thing for the BBC and It's fanatical environment writers, Richard Black and Roger Harrabin is to let G. Warming fade away and to go back to frogs and whales.
Instead, driven by prejudice, they have now got themselves into the position of trying to dispute facts and data, not theories. It is no longer their doomsday theory being attacked the skeptics, it is their doomsday theory being attacked by the data.
"Natural forcings", far from being irrelevant as claimed, have turned on them with a vengeance. "Global Warming is real, it is happening, we must act - Now" was the great catch cry and the more they prop it up, the more stupid they are going to look.
The latest pathetic effort at turning back the tide - "Global temperatures 'to decrease' " - click here - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7329799.stm
has given the skeptics a field day - "Global temperatures going down imply temperatures will go up" - click here - http://scienceandpublicpolicy.org/scarewatch/bbc_scarewatch_temps_down_temps_up.html
and here (in pdf form) - http://scienceandpublicpolicy.org/images/stories/papers/scarewatch/bbc_scare_temps.pdf

6/4   Nothing Like A Good Power Plant. Julie Walsh, CEI - http://www.globalwarming.org/node/1996 - "Nigeria needs more power plants to be able to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Yes, more. They have the seventh largest gas reserves in the world, but haven’t turned these into electricity. Most of the population still uses wood for cooking, as does rural India.
Last August, scientists found that these “dirty brown clouds created by millions of cooking fires in Asia contribute as much to global warming as greenhouse gas emissions.”"

6/4   The Wind Power Farce. This gem of an article is choc full of detail on the stupidity of these monsters that litter our countryside and force up our power bills. "Overblown: The Real Cost of Wind Power" - http://www.energytribune.com/articles.cfm?aid=842
"A “load factor” of just over 30 percent is recommended for a wind farm to be economically viable. However, many of Britain's onshore farms have been running at around 20 percent, with some in urban areas dropping as low as 9 percent. Oswald believes that overly relying on wind power will result in major power failures across the U.K. and an increase of up to 50 percent in electricity bills. While nothing comes close to the capricious aspect of nature itself, the industry also still suffers from some severe technical difficulties...  "
and...
"Much has been written about Denmark's success as the world's wind power pioneer. But the regularly repeated claim – that Denmark generates 20 percent of its electricity demand from wind sources – is highly misleading. That 20 percent of electricity is not supplied continuously from wind power. Denmark’s wind supply is so variable that it relies heavily on neighbors Norway and Sweden, taking their excess production...  "

5/4  NSW Treasurer Vents On Garnaut. Still smarting from having the rug pulled out from under his power privatization Michael Costa has attacked Ross trust-me-I'm-a-doctor-this-won't-hurt-a-bit Garnaut by claiming it will cost a staggering $439 billion with a "B" and wipe out 4% of the economy.
Read it here - SMH - http://www.smh.com.au/news/environment/greenhouse-gas-cuts-will-cost-430b/2008/04/03/1206851105550.html
Nobody can predict the future BUT we do live a society that is based on cheap power and fuel and it is really quite predictable what will happen if we suddenly make it all very expensive and elite - not rocket science.

5/4  The BBC - Some Rare Debate. Obviously stung by the distinct possibility that the Globe may be now cooling this article -   http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7327393.stm  is a rather pathetic attempt to discredit the solar - cosmic ray - cloud connection. It does get one thing right though -
""We started on this game because of Svensmark's work," said Terry Sloan from Lancaster University. "If he is right, then we are going down the wrong path of taking all these expensive measures to cut carbon emissions; if he is right, we could carry on with carbon emissions as normal."
The sunspot/global temperature link is actually very close - if you can predict sunspots you can predict global temperature.
Richard Black also confuses the IPCC report which actually only dismisses solar radiance not the cosmic/ray sunspot link in a crude attempt to claim the very small late 20th century rise as anthropogenic and dismissing "natural forcings" - a BIG boo boo because now they need "natural forcings" to explain away why the globe stopped warming and has now started cooling!
The crucial point is that the alarmists are all possible future theory while the sunspots/cosmic rays people are effectively explaining actual data, past and present.

5/4  Nancy Does India - Gets the Big Finger. So to speak! Normally the Indians just politely ignore G. Warming and get on with raising themselves out of abject poverty, but when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rocked up to confront them they had to respond. The silence from Nancy has since been deafening - "No climate agreement without India, says US" - http://www.rediff.com/money/2008/apr/02wto.htm

"What we should not do is go down the path of carbon taxes, carbon trading and carbon caps before it is absolutely plain that there is no alternative. Why? At present such measures seem likely to be unnecessary and futile and to lead to rorts."

5/4  About Face From "The Guardian"? No it's all part of the plot. This opinion piece - "The road from Kyoto - The strategy has failed. The world must follow Japan in a radical rethink of climate change policy" - seems very encouraging.
Has the Guardian changed it's spots? Of course not. You see, virtually every signatory to the Kyoto Protocol will be in breach of their undertakings in 2012. Until now they could all sneer and jeer and threaten The USA and Australia, but 2012 is the target date on which they all fail - that is why Kyoto must be denigrated and replaced urgently - the Asians call it "face".

5/4  Gore Smudge - Oops We Missed It. It took this right wing think tank to point out the deliberate mistake - see this link here - http://www.businessandmedia.org/commentary/2008/20080402153850.aspx
I dismissed the AL Gore CBS 60 minutes item as trite media pap - below - but the following from it is a true masterpiece of political obfuscation (you don't get to be VP of the USA fer nuthin')
"Now, we're told that this ad campaign is going to cost a barrel of money. How are you paying for this?" Stahl asked.
"Well, Tipper and I - thank you again - have put all of the profits from the movie and the book that we would have otherwise gotten, 'An Inconvenient Truth,' to this," Gore said.
"All the profits?" Stahl asked.
"Correct. All that we would have received, absolutely," Gore said.
"And, not only that but, you know there is a cash component to the Nobel Peace Prize, which he was awarded. And we donated that and we matched it," Tipper Gore added....  "
smooth, charming smile from Al - Butter wouldn't melt in it's mouth!
So where is the deliberate mistake you ask? - Simple - in fact bleeding obvious! - Big Al didn't make $300M from the movie, the book, and the prize - Dan Gainor reckons there's $290 million coming from elsewhere - probably big business with their snouts in the Global Warming trough! Obviously from people Big Al wants to keep from us for our own good anyway!
I should have realized that because Al just doesn't splash $300M around like that - he's there to make it, not waste it!
All this from people who routinely say of skeptic scientists - oh, don't listen to him, he's in the pay of the evil multinationals!!

4/4   The Pot Calls The Kettle Black. Brendan Nelson just got blamed for being a Swans fan in Sydney and a St Kilda Fan in Melbourne - meanwhile Kevin07 is strutting around Europe on "Climate Change" issues while our "Ambassador For The Environment" is following a very non Euro line in Bangkok. "Australia 'reverting on climate change'" - http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,23477794-29277,00.html
Greenpeace is not happy - they'll have to send in Phil Hare to mobilize the ABC and the ALP Left again! Soooo annoying!

4/4  Why "Global Warming" Works - Simple - It Doesn't Have Be True. Remember that recent Antarctica iceberg? The following links prove that it was nothing to do with Global Warming - a simple check with skeptics at the time would have proven that the Antarctic climate is cooling slightly and that It set a record sea ice extent last winter but It's too late now, everybody believes ice shelves are collapsing there - because they want to believe it. The media are completely unabashed because it was a good story and, yes, everybody does want to believe it.
The sinister aspect of it all is that the activists who feed this constant stream of mis-information into the conventional wisdom have a plan - they want to destroy industrialism and ride the wave of poverty and despair that results from that destruction - they consider themselves social engineers and must marvel at just how easy it all is.

3/4 "It All Falls Apart" - Continued. Bloomberg - "U.S. Rejects China's Call for Climate Change Funding (Correct)" - http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601086&sid=atHRfXGgR9bc&refer=latin_america - "China, the world's second-biggest emitter of carbon dioxide, called for developed nations to provide financial support of 0.5 percent of their GDP a year to help it and other developing nations fight global warming."

3/4   The Argo buoy Spin - "Climate Science" dug out the response the National Post Argo Buoy data - here - "Comment On Weblog Titled “Josh Willis On Climate Change: Global Warming Is Real”. http://climatesci.org/2008/04/01/comment-on-weblog-by-josh-willis-titled-josh-willis-on-climate-change-global-warming-is-real/  Josh Willis is the hapless NASA scientist who has to try and explain away the slight cooling detected in the global oceans when headlines are screaming that we are in IMMINENT danger - we MUST act NOW - Global Warming is Real and happening NOW etc. etc.
Poor Josh Willis is quoted - "It is a well-established fact that human activities are heating up the planet and that global temperatures will continue to rise for decades to come. Climate change skeptics often highlight certain scientific results as a means of confusing this issue, and that appears to be the case with Mr. Gunter’s description of our recent results based on data from Argo buoys.
Indeed, Argo data show no warming in the upper ocean over the past four years, but this does not contradict the climate models....  "
It goes on - really jaw dropping stuff for anyone who follows the debate.
It's all a bit sad really - what these Green people have done to science and to scientists.

31/3  Non Earth Hour - The more things change the more they stay the same - everybody ignored it - nobody turned out for it - and The Media just faked it with a shot of the Harbour Bridge lights - de ja vue all over again. There was no plunge in demand - demand normalydrops at 8pm.

31/3    Al Gore on CBS 60 Minutes - don't waste your time - it's a feel good personal profile - nothing new. (Do not watch it on a full stomach, however). http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/03/27/60minutes/main3974389.shtml   It is just a matter of how long it takes before the public realizes the Globe isn't warming - it's actually cooling. I don't think the new generation will ever forgive them.

31/3  Book Your Snow Trip Now!   In fact it may be a good time to buy into the Snow Resorts from simpletons who actually believe in G. Warming. Solar cycle 23 has gone REAL quiet. ( if you can predict sunspots, you can predict climate - they follow each other very closely -
The Northern Hemisphere just had a huge season - http://www.theunionleader.com/article.aspx?headline=Snowstorm+inches+us+closer+to+No.+1&articleId=3e1f3ca1-9255-4b6e-adb3-702b2ebb60d3
Antarctica is on track to setting another record sea ice extent - that famous ice shelf that broke off has already frozen over again - http://icecap.us/images/uploads/MISLEADING_REPORTS_ABOUT_ANTARCTICA.pdf - "And this winter is coming on quickly. Satellite images show the ice has already refrozen around the broken pieces and expanded. In fact the ice is returning so fast, it is running an amazing 60% ahead (4.0 vs 2.5 million square km extent) of last year when it set a new record."

30/3  Sorry, You've Lost Me Professor. Perhaps I'm just a bit dim, or the jargon has just rolled too far ahead of me. I know this piece by Paul Kelly is important but I just don't get it. "Garnaut warns of fixers" - "The Australian" -  http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,,23443997-2702,00.html
The bit I did get was this - "He said he would be optimistic once a proper ETS were established. "Well-designed markets can unleash the ingenuity of Australians in reducing emissions at minimum cost to the standard of living," he said.
He predicted this could be done without a noticeable effect on rising living standards."
So we build up a prosperous, egalitarian society based entirely on cheap power and fuel and we then suddenly choke off that cheap power and fuel by making it more and more expensive and elite and expect no noticeable effect on living standards. Pull the other one - it plays God Save The Queen!!!

28/3  Wind turbines - Another Greenie Fiasco.  Here's a good one. Ohio, USA, decide to put up Wind Turbines to be Green and save the planet. Except birds and bats that is, they are expendable. Uh huh. I mean what's a few birds and bats when there's 2.7 billion dollars at stake (yes that's billion not million) But wait there's more - not only do folks have to pay for the very, very expensive power from the bird killers to save the planet, but, and here's the really good bit - they are going to erect a few windmills and see how many birdies they kill and if necessary they are going to shut them down during the migration season so not too many endangered species get killed. So not only do they not produce any power for the 2.7 billion dollars when the wind don't blow, but they will to be shut down if they start killing too many eagles! Strange world we live in innit?
"Windmills that kill birds & bats get a pass" - http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/local_news/stories/2008/03/26/battered.ART_ART_03-26-08_A1_HF9OFQN.html?sid=101

27/3  Plllease - Not Collapsing Ice Shelves AGAIN!!  Fer Crissake can't the Global Warming alarmists come up with something new? Why do the mass media keep spewing out the propaganda unchallenged? I mean if we're facing the imminent end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it surely there is more than icebergs! A gigantic iceberg breaking apart isn't exactly melting is it? Taking the Antarctic Peninsular as typical of the whole continent is like taking Florida as typical of the whole USA.. See below for the links, but the continent set a record for sea ice extent last year - hardly G. Warming. So why does the huge G. Warming industry have to resort to repetitive cliche' - simple there is no new evidence to cite - it just ain't there anymore.

One would hope that by then it will be obvious that natural "forcings" are much much much more powerful than human Global Warming is and we do not need to spend trillions on the non existent problem.

25/3   ABC America Attacks Professor Singer.  Taking advice from Greenpeace, an ABC reporter, for want of a better word, follows the party line with  a personal attack on the octagenerian Professor Singer. here - click to play - http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=4505513&affil=kgo .
Actually I thought the good Prof. came across very well.
I think most people are going to realize from it that there is an other argument and will seek it out.
Professor Singer actually looked a little smug - he knows the planet is now cooling and that super slick reporters and Greenpeace activists are just going to look more and more stupid as it does. His reply is here - http://www.globalwarmingheartland.org/article.cfm?artId=23002

25/3  ARGO Buoys Turn On Their Masters.  3,000 ARGO buoys have become Global Warmer deniers, refusing to detect any Global Warming and actually detecting a slight cooling - OOPS.
"Perhaps The Climate Change Models Are Wrong" - Lorne Gunter, National Post - http://www.nationalpost.com/opinion/columnists/story.html?id=8926a1d3-f43f-4f8b-811d-0a0daa3e1012&k=39580&p=1 -
"So why are some scientists now beginning to question the buoys' findings? Because in five years, the little blighters have failed to detect any global warming. They are not reinforcing the scientific orthodoxy of the day, namely that man is causing the planet to warm dangerously. They are not proving the predetermined conclusions of their human masters. Therefore they, and not their masters' hypotheses, must be wrong.

In fact, "there has been a very slight cooling," according to a U.S. National Public Radio (NPR) interview with Josh Willis at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a scientist who keeps close watch on the Argo findings....  "
AND

"Just look how tenaciously some scientists are prepared to cling to the climate change dogma. "It may be that we are in a period of less rapid warming," Dr. Willis told NPR.
Yeah, you know, like when you put your car into reverse you are causing it to enter a period of less rapid forward motion. Or when I gain a few pounds I am in a period of less rapid weight loss....  "

25/3  Japan - $500 Billion - Yes $BILLION!!!   Wall Street Journal - "In Kyoto’s Home, Japan Tallies the Costs" - http://blogs.wsj.com/environmentalcapital/2008/03/19/in-kyotos-home-japan-tallies-the-costs/
"If getting within shouting distance of Kyoto’s targets could cost Japan $500 billion, how much would it cost to cut emissions twelve-fold more?"

Trouble with Global Warming is there is no solution to it, without throwing the baby out with the bathwater, and we are just going to get endlessly nagged by greenies with the end of the world is nigh.

24/3  There Is A Real Journalist At The ABC!  While Kerry Obrien and Tony Jones and the Left of the Labor Party were sniveling, groveling and slobbering all over the Euro-Greenie Phil Hare last week, Micheal Duffy and Ian Coombe on the very obscure Radio Nation "Counterpoint" program were left to report something that just might be relevant to the billions upon billions we are about to spend on Global Warming - the globe stopped warming! Not only that, there was a recent conference in NY which presented a hell of a lot of science proving that humans are much, much, much, more puny than mother nature in global climate.
The "7.30 Report" and "Lateline" are obviously just keeping it all from us for our own good!
There is no transcript - listen to it here - Counterpoint 17 March 2008 - http://mpegmedia.abc.net.au/rn/podcast/current/audioonly/cpt_20080317.mp3 - The Global Warming Item is buried into the program (which starts off with a diet item) - Go to the 26 min. 50 sec. mark in the mp3.  The program link is here - http://www.abc.net.au/rn/counterpoint/stories/2008/2191714.htm .

24/3  The conference that just won't go away - "The Australian" - "Climate Facts To Warm To" - http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,23411799-7583,00.html - "CATASTROPHIC predictions of global warming usually conjure with the notion of a tipping point, a point of no return.
Last Monday - on ABC Radio National, of all places - there was a tipping point of a different kind in the debate on climate change. It was a remarkable interview involving the co-host of Counterpoint, Michael Duffy and Jennifer Marohasy, a biologist and senior fellow of Melbourne-based think tank the Institute of Public Affairs. Anyone in public life who takes a position on the greenhouse gas hypothesis will ignore it at their peril.
Duffy asked Marohasy: "Is the Earth still warming?"
She replied: "No, actually, there has been cooling, if you take 1998 as your point of reference. If you take 2002 as your point of reference, then temperatures have plateaued. This is certainly not what you'd expect if carbon dioxide is driving temperature because carbon dioxide levels have been increasing but temperatures have actually been coming down over the last 10 years."
Duffy: "Is this a matter of any controversy?"
Marohasy: "Actually, no. ......"

23/3  Australian Carbon Tax - Master of spin Kevin07 may call it a "carbon trading scheme" but when the Government sells permits to burn fuel and that is passed on to the consumer, I call it a tax because it is a tax.
So now the hapless aussie motorist is not only paying federal petrol tax and state petrol tax and is competing with hundreds of millions of Chinese and Indians for the OPEC fuel, he is now going to be slugged with a carbon tax - and that's only half of it - his power bills are going through the roof.

This "The 7.30 Report" item - "Counting the cost of carbon emissions" -  http://www.abc.net.au/7.30/content/2007/s2196083.htm  contains one VERY significant LIE - "MATT PEACOCK: But against such lobbying, the Federal Government will have to weigh the consequences of inaction. This week the United Nations reported that Arctic ice sheets are melting at double the speed scientists had earlier predicted."  CBS - hardly some obscure blogger - reported here -

These diving instruments suggest that the oceans have not warmed up at all over the past four or five years. That could mean global warming has taken a breather. Or it could mean scientists aren't quite understanding what their robots are telling them."

20/3   CBS - Thin Ice Spin. Skeptics have known for a month or more that arctic sea Ice is back and sure enough, here is the mass media spin - it's back but it's only thin -uh huh!
Skeptics are not worried by this of course because it will look more and more stupid as the Globe gets cooler and cooler in response to the dwindling solar wind.
We know it is spin because it dismisses the record antarctic ice pack last winter with this trite little piece of obfuscation - "At the South Pole, in Antarctica, sea ice seems stable, even slightly above normal, the scientists reported. However, ice levels in Antarctica always are quite different from the Arctic and aren't as connected to the world's weather."
CBS News - "Arctic Sea Ice Builds, But Vulnerable" - http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/03/18/ap/tech/main3948901.shtml - yeah right!

20/3  The latest Greenie Farce - Hybrids.  To the Ozone Hole that will not go away, Chernobyl that only killed 23, not hundreds of thousands, toxic mercury light globes, biofuels causing mass starvation while increasing CO2 output (to name a few) - we have the latest politically correct greenie joke - "Toyota Prius proves a gas guzzler in a race with the BMW 520d " - Times On Line - http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/driving/used_car_reviews/article3552994.ece

20/3  The Australian opposition rubs it's hands with glee and sharpens up the political knives and media follows suit as the Australian Government prepares a carbon trading scheme - "Australia to have carbon trading scheme by 2010 - minister" - http://www.physorg.com/news124947215.html - carbon trading schemes are notoriously corrupt and have NEVER had any effect on CO2 output anywhere in the world. 20/3  Waste On A Truly Gigantic Scale - $2,900,000,000,000!
The US Environmental Protection Agency - EPA - Analysis of the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act of 2008.
On November 9, 2007 Senators Lieberman and Warner requested that EPA estimate the economic impacts of the S. 2191, the ‘Climate Security Act of 2007’ (now the ‘Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act of 2008’). This document constitutes EPA’s analysis in response to this request. The analysis is available online at: http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/economics/economicanalyses.html or you may download it directly from here http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/downloads/s2191_EPA_Analysis.pdf.
Their conclusions ain’t pretty.
EPA estimates that LW may reduce GDP by $2.9 trillion in 2050 while reducing atmospheric CO2 by around 25 ppm by 2095.
What a bargain — reduce GDP by an estimated 6.9 percent for no meaningful change in atmospheric CO2!
NOTE - I am more and more uneasy with this, on philosophical grounds - the whole G. Warming fiasco is based on the preposterous notion that we can predict the future - we cannot - with computer models - or with economics - if we could predict the future of the economy the economists would not need to work for a living - they would keep it to themselves and become very rich. Greenies claim that it will all be, not only alright, but beneficial - skeptics should not fall into the trap of matching their crystal ball gazing. It is however self explanatory that cheap power and fuel have brought wealth and prosperity to the masses in the west  and that making it expensive and elite will choke that prosperity and bring instant poverty

19/3  It All Falls Apart - or what Kevin07 discovered on his theatrical visit to the Bali love-in.
China and India are not going to take any crap from the old world - "India, for example, has an emission of one tonne per capita. The US is 20 tons per capita. So I have no idea why India should be a major emitter," Indian climate official Ajay Mathur said late Saturday.
MAKUHARI, Japan, March 15. Japan is hosted weekend talks of the world's top 20 greenhouse gas emitters in a bid to push forward the slow-moving negotiations on a new treaty after Kyoto, whose obligations expire in 2012.
It was a TOTAL DISASTER. China and India are quite happy to let the decadent West self destruct - this century will belong to them. A chinaman in a space suit salutiing the hammer and sickle on the moon will symbolize it.
Reports on the non-event at Makuhari are here - http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2008-03/16/content_7799763.htm - http://www.reuters.com/article/homepageCrisis/idUSSP86019._CH_.2400 - http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5jbpJ2oo4XAaJp7ZBs_zWDU1pgZ2g - http://www.int.iol.co.za/index.php?set_id=1&click_id=143&art_id=nw20080316102120201C350328 - http://www.reuters.com/article/latestCrisis/idUST132482

17/3  Channel 7 Panics - Brings On "On Thin Ice" Before the Globe Cools Anymore
Last week we had a visit from the Greenpeace activist Phil Hare who was here to prop up wavering support for Global Warming by Labor after they finally discovered that they had been making impossible election promises on it. It is no co-incidence that "On Thin Ice" suddenly appeared on 7.
Channel Seven have adopted G. Warming as a cause. Trouble is, the Globe stopped Warming - not only stopped warming but started cooling.
Channel Seven are going to look more and more stupid as the Globe becomes less and less hot and more and more cold.
No amount of political spin can disguise the fact that mother nature is proving much more powerful than we are.
But - I hear you say - this is just one cold winter and the inevitable end of a drought. Yes, that's fine, BUT, Mr Hare, the IPCC and Channel Seven, the ABC and the CSIRO have been claiming for 2 decades that CO2 is entirely responsible for climate changes and that "natural forcings" are on a much longer time scale and so can be completely ignored.
Satellites measure the whole Earth temperature and the data shows not just a fall, but a dramatic drop in global temperature last year.
Not only that but the Arctic sea ice is back to normal and the Antarctic sea ice just set a record for winter.
Whether this is a short term or a long term cooling remains to be seen BUT it has already PROVEN 3 things.
ONE - The UN IPCC and their computer models failed to predict it.
TWO - The UN IPCC was wrong to claim that "natural forcings" can be ignored.
THREE - Whatever we do about "climate change" can be easily neutralized by "natural forcings" which are clearly much more powerful than anthropogenic CO2.
Not only that, but the same satellite data shows that G. Warming stopped about 10 years ago now and there is a distinct downturn.
Here's a new "Summary For Policy Makers"
OOPS The Computer Models were wrong.
"Natural Forcings" are much more powerful than we thought.
The Globe seems to have started to cool - no need to panic - we can now just wait and see.
The most depressing thing is that Greenies will just drop G. Warming and take up G. Cooling and they will just get away with it - like the hole-in-the-ozone, DDT, Chernobyl, the Loch Ness monster and all the other superstitious myths.

17/3  Hey, Nobel Prize Winners, Answer Me This by Roy W. Spencer University of Alabama in Huntsville
As a climate scientist, I would like to see some answers to a few basic global warming science questions which I’m sure the U.N.’s Ministry of Global Warming Truth (also known as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC) can handle. After all, since they are 90% confident that recent global warming is man made, they surely must have already addressed these issues:
http://icecap.us/images/uploads/Hey-Nobel-Prize-Winners-Answer-Me-This.pdf

I can answer his questions - The IPCC is not science - the notion of using computer modeling to predict the future was always patently absurd - We have just been visited by an "IPCC Lead Author"- Phil Hare - here in AUS - he's actually a Greenpeace Activist see here - http://junkscience.com/blog_js/2008/03/11/ngos-and-the-ipcc/ (also here http://www.abc.net.au/7.30/content/2007/s2187890.htm)- so the dire warnings of "scientists" was actually written by at least one political activist. It is not science, it was never science. I don't blame Dr Spencer for getting exasperated.

16/3  Snouts in the trough - The trouble with creating the multi-billion dollar Carbon Trading fiasco is that it becomes self propagating and very difficult to stop - "Economist Strikes Gold In Climate-Change Fight" - http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120535230851631199.html

16/3  OMG - Not Tuvalu - AGAIN!!! - http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L10842290.htm - Tuvalu is a coral atoll - it is fortunate that the coral can grow much, much faster than the sea level can rise or it would have been swamped 10,000 years ago when the sea level started to rise after the Ice Age,  Europeans have done a lot of damage to the Island - most prominently by giving then a cargo cult mentality. I repeat the JunkScience reference which debunks the Tuvalu furphy very effectively - http://junkscience.com/blog_js/2008/01/23/sea-level-rise-paradise-lost-tuvalu/
16/3  NOAA  - Climate of 2008 February in Historical Perspective - National Climatic Data Center - http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/research/2008/feb/feb08.html  - "In the contiguous United States, the average winter temperature was 33.2°F (0.6°C), which was 0.2°F (0.1°C) above the 20th century average - yet still ranks as the coolest since 2001. It was the 54th coolest winter since national records began in 1895."
Of more interest is that despite the La Nina there was more precipitation - "Winter precipitation was much above average from the Midwest to parts of the West, notably Kansas, Colorado and Utah. Although moderate-to-strong La Niña conditions were present in the equatorial Pacific the winter was unique for the above average rain and snowfall in the Southwest, where La Niña typically brings drier-than-average conditions."
This is consistent with the Solar Connection theory - that is, when the sun calms (as it has) the Earth clouds up and the Earth's surface cools and makes G. Warming alarm look more and more stupid - will the bubble burst or will it just fade into obscurity is the only question - along with how much economic damage it does to the poor and middle class before it dies.

15/3  The Lunatic Fringe is not happy with Kevin07 - http://www.wsws.org/articles/2008/mar2008/garn-m14.shtml - that's good news - now there's the little problem of keeping G. Warming election promises which will impoverish millions of Australians - this'll be interesting - has the master of spin bitten off more than he can chew? I was queuing up with the pensioners to vote today - they are never going to forgive him!

15/3   New Gallup poll shows Americans are very underwhelmed with Global Warming alarm - here it is - interpret it yourself -  http://www.gallup.com/poll/104932/Polluted-Drinking-Water-No-Concern-Before-Report.aspx  Even with the very, very cold winter it must be a big worry for the G. Warming industry.

15/3  The "New Scientist" is a greenie magazine and makes the usual mistake of confusing carbon dioxide with pollution, but in doing so it only succeeds in pointing out the futility of western attempts to curb global carbon output without China - China will have to go back and filter sulfur and particulates when they become fully westernized, but otherwise greenies should go back to saving frogs! - "China emissions to swamp Kyoto reductions by 2010" http://environment.newscientist.com/channel/earth/dn13447-china-emissions-to-swamp-kyoto-reductions-by-2010.html?feedId=online-news_rss20
This Seattle Time report confirms that - "China promotes new era of coal-fired energy, despite pollution" - http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/news/business/story.html?id=00682b74-e6dd-4023-a454-eba84a1137a3

14/3  You're Scaring Them to Death!!!
"America and China face trade protection measures from Europe if they fail to join a global climate deal to replace the Kyoto Protocol, EU leaders will caution at their summit in Brussels today.
Nations that refuse to curb greenhouse gases will be told that they face “appropriate measures” — code for trade sanctions — if they try to gain a competitive advantage by continuing to allow cheap, high-pollution production."
Europe exports its high pollution industries and then threatens to penalise those countries with trade sanctions - OH PLLLEASE!!

14/3  See - You Can Never Win. "LONDON - The government billed it as the greenest budget ever, but on Wednesday British finance minister Alistair Darling failed to deliver on most counts, climate campaigners said." - http://www.planetark.com/dailynewsstory.cfm/newsid/47480/story.htm
Going after the green vote has proven a disaster in the UK because it's impossible. Everyone's power bills MUST soar and driving cars MUST become elite. Fixing G. Warming is politically untenable because it will remove cheap power and fuel and generate an underclass in dire poverty.
No matter what any Government does it is never enough.
There is plenty of contrary evidence out there and plenty of other green issues - the best strategy is surely attack.
Its also called leadership - we need statesmen, and all we get is Kevin, Gordon, and George.

13/3  US Chamber Of Commerce position paper - "There are also things we should not do. We should not implement policies that damage our economy or force American jobs overseas. And, we should not enact policies that ignore the importance of having continued access to traditional energy sources--including coal, oil, gas, and nuclear--as well as alternatives." - http://www.uschambermagazine.com/content/080311
13/3    7.30 Report reports Lies. The huge multi-billion dollar alternate energy lobby expected, demanded and received access to the national broadcaster on the 7.30 report last night. The euro-greenie Phil Hare is here to demand access to our wallets in Canberra and to keep up the pressure on Labor. Kerry Obrien was so busy groveling and licking his boots that any presence of  journalism was lost. "More compelling evidence"? - you've got to be joking - Greenies are so comfortable with the media now that they can put out BLATANT LIES.
There is NO "accelerating loss of Arctic sea ice"  The Uni. of Illinois Polar Research Group publishes data straight off the satellites here - http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/  the data shows that arctic sea ice has bounced back and is nearly back to normal here - http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/IMAGES/current.anom.jpg . the GLOBAL sea ice extent - it is supposed to be GLOBAL Warming nicht wahr? - is back above average here - http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/IMAGES/global.daily.ice.area.withtrend.jpg  (the Antarctic set a record for sea ice extent last winter!). So much for
"accelerating loss of Arctic sea ice" - LIAR.
His other evidence? Crop Losses in recent years - the globe stopped warming 10 years ago - how could G. Warming be causing crop losses when the globe ain't warming - durh!
His last bit of evidence? - emissions are rising - that's true but it is NOT "new and compelling evidence" The fact is that CO2 output is continuing at an almost exponential rate, but there is a huge lag in its non-effect - global temperature stopped rising 10 years ago and in fact recently plunged down - here - http://wattsupwiththat.wordpress.com/2008/03/06/uah-global-temperature-data-for-feb08-near-zero-anomaly/ - and atmospheric CO2 level here - http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/gmd/ccgg/trends/ - just continues on it's slow, steady, linear, rise. Why worry about an exponential increase in CO2 if it isn't affecting anything? Durh again!
I wouldn't mind so much if there was only no "new and compelling evidence", but when you let them start telling blatant lies, Kerry, I get the peeved - real peeved!  Please - not when I've just eaten, next time - your groveling is stomach turning.

12/3  Politics is the art of saying that this page is not actually white - it is really black. UK "Guardian" - (John Hutton is the UK Govt. Business Secretary) "Hutton told a London conference today: "For critics, there's a belief that coal-fired power stations undermine the UK's leadership position on climate change. In fact, the opposite is true."  pick your jaw up - it gets worse - "Our leadership role is best promoted by the actions we take on capping emissions, carbon pricing and supporting the development of new carbon capture and storage technology. Not by gesture politics." Dr Goebells would be so proud of them!  http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2008/mar/10/greenpolitics.energy

12/3   Hypocrisy (or being a hypocrite) is the act of pretending to oppose a belief or behaviour while holding the same beliefs or behaviours at the same time.

Kyoto has ZERO effect on Global Warming anyway. China and India have refused point blank to reduce CO2 at all. By 2050 China alone will output the present total  global CO2 emissions of 8 Gigatonnes. The previous government negotiated a special Kyoto target for us. We haven't reduced our CO2 output at all - we just stopped all the farmers clearing their land. Soooo annoying!

12/3  Shooting themselves in the foot - Los Angeles Times - "Teach Climate Change" - it backfired very badly in the UK where the High Court instructed them to balance about 11 big scientific errors in Al Gore's "A. I. Truth"(http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/law/corporate_law/article2633838.ece) - US teachers are better than that, they would balance their teaching anyway and the greenies would not like it -   http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/sunday/commentary/la-op-wagner9mar09,0,2762148.story

11/3 The Washington Times - "Model Scams" - points out the absurdity of trusting Computer Models to predict doomsday - http://www.washingtontimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080309/COMMENTARY/532326505

11/3  The Herald Sun lets Alan Moran report the NY conference - "Let's cool it in heat of great debate"  - "Before further dangerous excursions into energy-control policies, governments need to take note of the grave doubts of so many of the world's eminent scientists at the Heartland Institute conference" - http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,23337174-664,00.html

11/3  The UK "The Times" timidly sticks it's head above the parapet and politely suggests that the UK has gone collectively mad - "Thoughtful use of solid science must underpin environmental protection" - http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/leading_article/article3508113.ece

11/3  Dr Simon Lewis Recants. Dr Simon Lewis discovers that Global Warming is mostly plain superstition - cooda-told-im-that!
Dr Simon Lewis is a Royal Society research fellow At Leeds Uni.UK. When asked to support Greenpeace activists climbing on a power station he discovered that their claims were based on - yes you guessed it - a computer model. His conscience seems to have pricked him - here - http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/feb/26/climatechange.carbonemissions
"In the trial, for which I was an expert witness, crucial questions were how many people does climate change kill, and what proportion is the UK responsible for? I was surprised to discover that nobody knows."
On the other hand perhaps Dr Simon Lewis has noticed that the Globe stopped warming 10 years ago and now seems to be cooling rather than warming and he's just having a bet each way!
"Climate Resistance" is not so charitable and attacks his views in detail here -  http://www.climate-resistance.org/2008/03/bogus-body-counts-casualties-in-climate.html

10/3  Petulance. I have been reporting the interesting altercation between the NY Times science reporter and the NY Times environment reporter.
I say altercation because there is no debate. The Environment reporter (Andrew Revkin) went along to the recent NY Skeptics Conference and produced this bizarre, childish, petulant piece that makes absolutely NO attempt to come to terms with ANY the issues being raised there.
Here - http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/04/science/earth/04climate.html
The science reporter's (John Tierney) effort is here - http://tierneylab.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/03/03/global-warming-skeptics-convene-in-ny/index.html?ref=environment
Why Petulant? - how's this - Revkin concludes his piece with this "The meeting was largely framed around science, but after the luncheon, when an organizer made an announcement asking all of the scientists in the large hall to move to the front for a group picture, 19 men did so."
J Bast from Heartland had to point out in a plaintiff letter to the editor here - http://www.heartland.org/Article.cfm?artId=22900 - that "As Mr. Revkin knows, that request was made at the last minute, after the room had nearly emptied after lunch. Unfortunately, his delight in reporting such a poor response has been re-reported widely."
Mr Revkin also reports a Greenpeace activist at the conference - the bitter irony being that all skeptic scientists attempting to attend the recent IPCC love-in at Bali were threatened with arrest when they tried to attend.
Says it all really - dunnit?!
Once again the public are spared the issues and fed personal attacks and the party line - the science is settled - don't listen to him he's the devil in the pay of the evil multinationals.

9/3  Global Sea Ice Area Is Back. Never letting the facts get in the way of a good doomsday scenario, greenies still blithely claim that the icecaps are melting despite the satellite data showing a rebound. http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/IMAGES/global.daily.ice.area.withtrend.jpg

8/3   Orders - Orders Vitch MUST Be Obeyed. 8/3  Reaction to the NY Conference. The Climate Skeptics Conference in NY proved 3 things.
1/ The science is NOT settled, many prominent, highly qualified, scientists disagree.
2/ The Mass Media fear reporting opposition to G. Warming alarm.
3/ Like Al Gore, G. Warming Alarmists will not debate the science - preferring personal attacks.

While China and India will prosper greatly from coal-to-liquid-fuel technology (especially since coal is now persona-non-grata in the west)  - it will be decades before they can spare it for the rest of the world.
The US Congress, in full election mode, has just with the Orwellian named - “Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007” condemned their country to continued dependence on foreign oil and the huge multinational oil giants who find it and sell it.
All the oil the US needs for 200 years or more sits just over the border in Canada - oil sands.
Did nobody in the whole Congress notice that - as Steve Milloy of "JunkScience" points out.
"the ironically-named “Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007” that was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Bush last December bars the federal government from purchasing fuels whose lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions are greater than those from fuels produced from convention petroleum sources."
Ironic indeed - - since it also bans biofuel!

29/2   This is really fascinating. How are we meeting our (AUS) Kyoto commitments? Simple, the previous Government negotiated a special deal, and then we stopped all the hapless farmers from clearing their land.
Well the hapless farmers have bitten back and demanded compensation, and, since we signed Kyoto, they are are going to get it.
Who pays? We do - the mug punter just pays and pays again for being Green.

The gross stupidity, indeed the vile obscenity, of paying $11 billion to farmers for NOT doing something, just goes unchallenged by the cowered mainstream media. Adding insult to injury, of course, is that the only thing unaffected is CO2 output which just continues to rise almost exponentially!!

When long-term aspiration meets short-term desperation the outcome is predictable. The speeches will be made, the targets will be set, the elaborate schemes for pricing carbon will be promulgated, large sums of public money will be spent. But carbon levels will go on rising and the sustainable planetary future will remain out of reach."

26/2   The Re-appearing Snows Of Mt Kilimanjaro?
"It looked nothing like the photographs of Kibo nearly denuded of ice and snow in the Al Gore documentary "An Inconvenient Truth." Nor did it seem to jibe with the film's narrative: "Within the decade, there will be no more snows of Kilimanjaro."
As it turned out, we had simply been lucky.
This was the last week of January — nearly a year ago — and the middle of the dry season. But several weeks of heavy rain and snow preceded the arrival of our group," -
"That made for a freakishly well-fed snow pack"-
"But to many climate scientists and glaciologists who have probed and measured, the disappearance of the summit's ice fields is inevitable and imminent."

It IS entirely consistent with what is happening to the Earth - not a temperature effect, but more precipitation.
The sun has quietened thus allowing more cosmic rays to strike the earth and thus form more clouds - cooling is just a by-product of more clouds.
We will wait with interest to see if it the climber was just lucky and if "the disappearance of the summit's ice fields is inevitable and imminent"

22/2  Coal To Liquid Technology Ready To Go. "Peak Oil" is a fallacy. Oil prices will NOT keep sky rocketing indefinitely. Hydgrogenation of coal will soon become economic. Euro greens can jump up and down in impotent rage all they like. China and India no longer need them.
"A Chinese energy company is poised to open a chemical plant to make liquid fuels for cars and aircraft from coal, a move that has alarmed environmental campaigners who say it will increase carbon emissions and worsen global warming.
The plant, in Inner Mongolia, will use technology developed by Germany during the second world war to convert coal directly into synthetic diesel, dubbed "Nazi fuel". China says the process will help break its booming economy's reliance on foreign oil, and that it will build more such plants.
The US and India are also investing heavily in the technology, which is being heavily promoted by coal companies across the world as a cost-effective solution to soaring oil prices and concerns about energy security."  http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2008/feb/20/china.ctl

20/2  Solar Cycle 24: Implications for the United States - This Brilliant Paper, to be presented at the upcoming 2008 International Conference on Climate Change warns of the very real prospect of global cooling and pulls apart the whole G. Warming theory - very easy to understand -
"Climate is not a random walk. If you can find a solar physicist to give you a prediction of solar activity, you can use that to make a prediction of climate. That prediction will be good for perhaps twenty-five years out.

"Can global warming from increased atmospheric carbon dioxide save us from a collapse in mid-latitude agricultural production? Not at all.
Anthropogenic warming is real, it is also minuscule."

"Before we leave the solar and atmospheric science, it is important that other researchers are able to replicate the work that I have done. It is simple enough that high school students should be able to do it"

17/2  CBO - Congressional Budget Office - Report: “Policy Options for Reducing CO2 Emissions (Feb 13, 2008)” supports Emissions Tax - not Cap and Trade.
According to the CBO report, a carbon tax...
  • Would provide firms with an incentive to undertake more emission reductions when the cost of doing so was relatively low and allow them to reduce emissions less when the cost of doing so was particularly high.
  • Would keep the costs of emission reductions in balance with the anticipated benefits, whereas a cap would not. A tax on emissions would be the most efficient incentive-based option for reducing emissions and could be relatively easy to implement.
  • A cap that is too tight will disproportionately increase costs over benefits and a cap that is not tight enough will disproportionately lower costs relative to benefits. A tax, by contrast, will tend to hold the costs of emission reductions in line with the constant (although uncertain) expected benefits, encouraging greater emission reductions when costs are low and allowing more emissions when costs are high.
  • When analysts take into account the degree to which costs are likely to vary around a single best estimate, they conclude that a tax could offer much higher net benefits than a cap.
  • One study suggests that the net benefits of a worldwide tax on CO2 emissions in 2010 would be more than eight times larger than those of an equivalent inflexible cap. Viewed another way, any long-term emission-reduction target could be met by a tax at a fraction of the cost of an inflexible cap-and-trade program.
  • A tax would provide a steady, predictable price from emissions.
  • An inflexible cap, however, could result in volatile allowance prices, making a cap-and-trade program more disruptive to the economy than a tax would be.
  • Price volatility could be particularly problematic with CO2 allowances because fossil fuels play such an important role in the U.S. economy. They accounted for 85 percent of the energy consumed in the United States in 2006. CO2 allowance prices could affect energy prices, inflation rates, and the value of imports and exports. Volatile allowance prices could have disruptive effects on markets for energy and energy intensive goods and services and make investment planning difficult.
  • The smoother price path offered by a CO2 tax would better enable firms to plan for investments in capital equipment that would reduce CO2 emissions (for example, by increasing efficiency or using low-carbon fuels) and could provide a more certain price signal for firms considering investing in the development of new emission-reduction technologies.

17/2   This ABC article - http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/02/16/2164577.htm?section=justin - cites a so called science conference which turned out to be nothing but a propogandafest aimed at the US elections. I am not tooo critical of the ABC - the absolute flood of G. Warming propaganda has slowed to a trickle since they got Kevin07 elected and even Global Warmers deserve to be heard. The so called science conference produced this disgraceful piece of rubbish - http://www.aaas.org/news/releases/2004/0616climate.shtml -  which I was moved to correct in red here - http://home.austarnet.com.au/yours/web%20pages/AAAS%20-%20AAAS%20News%20Release.htm - no scientist would claim that "Methane concentrations increased from 300 parts per million in 1958 to 380 ppm in April 2004" - methane is in fact a pitifully insignificant 1.7ppm of air!
16/2  Why did "Global Warming" become "Climate Change"? - so that all the bad weather can be blamed on the evil sinners who use electricity and petrol of course.
This Hong Kong report claims "Climate Change" means hotter summers and colder winters - it will be interesting to see how they explain colder winters AND colder summers!
The most depressing thing is that they would claim we are causing a colder climate and they would probably get away with that too - superstition is never far beneath the veneer of civilization and the media would shamelessly publish it... http://www.thestandard.com.hk/news_detail.asp?pp_cat=11&art_id=61512&sid=17581089&con_type=1

16/2   The EU have just squibbed on their ambitious Global Warming plans when they hit practical reality. This Marshal Institute paper points out to Americans just what sacrifice is involved in the promises of all the presidential candidates on Global Warming - Cloud cuckoo land. -

15/2  This very erudite article effectively dumps all over Emissions Trading Schemes - ETS - "The E.T.S. has had a number of unintended economic consequences. In Germany, for example, electricity prices rose by almost 25 percent during the first trading period, while German electricity generators earned extra-normal profits of several billion euros. Electricity prices are set to rise 10 percent this winter in the U.K. Cement producers across southern Europe now face competition from Morocco and Algeria, as producers there are not subject to emissions purchase. The net result is increased global emissions and job loss within Europe.
A recent study has suggested that continuation of the E.T.S. through 2012 will result in a net reduction in gross domestic product across the E.U.-15, ranging from 1.3 percent for Great Britain to 3.3 percent for Italy. In other words: recession."
And warns that in the USA...
"An April 2007 Massachusetts Institute of Technology report estimated the annual cost of implementing these schemes between $263 billion and $366 billion. The estimated annual cost for a family of four is $3,500 to $4,900, with a disproportionate share from low-income families. In November 2007, the Congressional Budget Office estimated that a modest 15 percent reduction in CO2 emissions would cost consumers $100 billion annually, and similarly found that low-income families would bear the brunt."

15/2   More grave concern about the hiatus in the Sun - "Where Have All The Sunspots Gone?" - "No wonder there is so much talk recently about global cooling. I certainly hope that’s wrong, because a Dalton type solar minimum would be very bad for our world economy and agriculture.
Some say it is no coincidence that 2008 has seen a drop in global temperature as indicated by several respected temperature indexes compared to 2007, and that our sun is also quiet and still not kick starting its internal magentic dynamo." -
 http://wattsupwiththat.wordpress.com/2008/02/13/where-have-all-the-sunspots-gone/

15/2   "In her lecture series, "Warming Up to the Truth: The Real Story About Climate Change," astrophysicist Dr. Sallie Baliunas shared her findings Tuesday at the University of Texas at Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center.
Dr. Baliunas' work with fellow Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics astronomer Willie Soon suggests global warming is more directly related to solar variability than to increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, an alternative view to what's been widely publicized in the mainstream media".
I must say
that I am a little dubious about this lack of the signature in the 1- 5 Km zone of the atmosphere. Most of the Sun's heat is transferred back to space by convection currents in the atmosphere. Surely this must mix the layer of air in question and make the minor radiative "Greenhouse" effect very difficult to detect? I'll try to answer my own question. Dr Baliunas is of course otherwise right - It's the sun, foolish one!...

14/2  This is a greenie website - "Wired Blog Network" - http://blog.wired.com/wiredscience/2008/02/chinas-2030-co2.html - but it makes very salient points -
"If China's carbon usage keeps pace with its economic growth, the country's carbon dioxide emissions will reach 8 gigatons a year by 2030, which is equal to the entire world's CO2 production today."
and...
"What Americans can't expect is that we'll be able to strongarm the Chinese into anything. We're not dealing with a small Latin American country or a former Soviet republic. As these raw economic numbers make clear: they are going to generate power to build their economy, with or without us."

14/2   Sometimes it gets funny - one myth can now be destroyed by another - it's a pity one is a harmless tourist attraction while the other is costing billions upon billions. 12/2  The most exasperating thing about the alarmists is the way they just ignore all the bad news. While China pays lip service to AGW and then just ignores it, India point blank refuses to go along at all - insisting that its over 1 Billion people have the right to emit the same amount of CO2 as the average European - this makes a mockery of all the post Kyoto feel good talkfests.      http://www.carbonpositive.net/viewarticle.aspx?articleID=989

12/2   In a breathtaking act of gutless barstardry Japan is going to pay billions of dollars to Russia, which emits more greenhouse that Japan does, so that Japan can go on emitting itself  - very strange world we live in - http://www.planetark.com/dailynewsstory.cfm/newsid/46872/story.htm
Well perhaps not so strange in that Russia has a huge supply "carbon credits" since its economy collapsed with the Soviets!
The only thing is, the amount of CO2  being emitted just goes on unabated and the poor old Japanese taxpayer just pays and then pays some more.

12/2   Al Gore makes everybody who took him seriously look very, very stupid at a Jimmy Carter's Southern Baptist revival.
"Employing some of his slide show of melting glaciers and mourning polar bears that fueled his apocalyptic documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth," Gore added Bible verses to the scenes of environmental disaster so as to "put it in the context of my own faith as a Baptist."  Quoting the prophet Isaiah, the former vice president urged, "Come let us reason together," he said, "and tell one another the truth, inconvenient though it may be, about the crisis, including the opportunity that we now face."  Shifting to the Book of Deuteronomy, Gore then declared:  "The ancient prophet laid the choice before the people," he said: "Life or death, blessings or curses. Therefore choose life so both thou and thy seed may live."

Like the prophets he quoted, Gore outlined the various calamities that will unfold if wicked humanity does not repent of its environmental sins: flooding, hurricanes, tornados, and droughts of biblical proportions.   "Never in the past has all human civilization been at risk," he insisted about the "crisis" of Global Warming.   He quoted more Scripture:  "When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have set in place, Lord what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?" And he offered hope of repentance:  "I think that there is a distinct possibility that one of the messages coming out of this gathering and this new covenant is creation care-that we who are Baptists of like mind and attempting in our lives to the best of our abilities to glorify God, are not going to countenance the continued heaping of contempt on God's creation."

9/2  Sometimes You Have A Win.
Dear Grant Indeed. The San Diego Union Tribune actually put my question to Dr. Jeff Severinghaus, who is a professor of geosciences in the Geosciences Research Division at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego.
It completely flumixed him - here is the transcript - http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/science/20080208-1354-transcript.html

"moderator(Q) This question was submitted via e-mail by Grant Lockie: Which of the following are incorrect? Water vapour is a greenhouse gas. Water vapour is up to 40,000 ppm(vol) in the air. Water vapour is on average about 10,000 ppm(vol) in the air. The water vapour molecule has a greenhouse effect many times that of the carbon dioxide molecule. Carbon dioxide is only about 380ppm(vol) in air. If these are all correct - and they are! - how can carbon dioxide be considered to be of any significance at all in determining the Earth's temperature?

Dr_Jeff_Severinghaus(A) Dear Grant, Yes, this is a commonly asked question and I'm glad you brought it up. These are indeed all correct. The reason that carbon dioxide plays a critical role in determining Earth's temperature is that water vapor comes from the ocean, which covers 3/4 of the planet's surface. Think of the vast ocean as a nearly inexhaustible source of potential "greenhouse gas", just waiting to be converted to water vapor whenever the temperature rises a tiny bit. This is what we scientists call a "feedback". Humans have absolutely no way to control the water vapor content of the atmosphere because the liquid water (ocean) covers so much of the Earth's surface. On an imaginary desert planet, this would not be true - water vapor emitted by some civilization living on that planet would indeed change the climate. But if we emit water vapor it just gets rained out in a few days and cannot compete with the ocean as a source. So carbon dioxide is critical because it is not subject to this "feedback", and in fact drives this "feedback". "

Waffle, waffle, waffle. If he was so glad I brought it up why didn't he have an answer for it!!!!

The answer dear reader is that CO2 has no direct effect on "Greenhouse" - it's too small. To make CO2 have any effect on "Greenhouse" you need a super computer and a super computer model so you can gaze into your crystal ball and feed your "scenarios" of the future into it and thus portend the end of the world as we know it. Black magic in a lab coat!

"One is that carbon dioxide, or CO2, and other gases trap heat, making the Earth warm."
- LIE - The only "other" gas that traps heat is water vapour - CO2. methane, etc. etc. are trivial trace gases that only have a theoretical effect on climate.
"Certain forms of carbon, which are abundant in natural CO2 but depleted in fossil-fuel CO2, provide a “smoking gun” that shows undeniably that this 38 percent rise is human-caused." - LIE - it is very deniable - this is the so called isotopic composition furphy. Humans have added a huge amount of CO2 to the air - almost half as much as was there when we started, it is hardly surprising therefore that this shows up when we take samples of air, BUT it is only a tiny fraction (6Gt) of the 200Gt of Carbon that circulates each year between plants and animals in the carbon cycle in the biosphere. Furthermore the ice core data cited clearly shows that the level of CO2 in air varies widely and constantly due to natural causes and follows behind, not in front of, rises and falls in the Earth's temperature. Since we do not know how much "natural" CO2 has risen we cannot contend that it was all human.
"A third inexorable truth is that with our present heavy reliance on fossil fuels, we are on schedule to double or triple the burden of heat-trapping gases by the end of the 21st century."  A third inexorable LIE more likely - as already pointed out, the ONLY heat trapping gas of ANY significance at all is water vapour. Furthermore the science of the greenhouse effect proves CO2 has reached a level where doubling it has less and less effect - the frequencies it traps are becoming saturated - no excuse for these so called scientists not to know that!
How do I know all this? Because Global Warming is a cult and this is it's dogma - it's repeated and parroted over and over but its proponents like mindless zombies.

"- require Britain to build up to 20,000 more wind turbines -

- power from turbines (including the cost of back-up) between two and three times more expensive than that from conventional sources. -
- To grow the crops needed to meet the target would require all the farmland the EU currently uses to grow food, at a time when world food prices are soaring. Even Friends of the Earth have called on the EU to abandon its obsession with biofuels. Yet the Commission presses on regardless -
- As for the "emissions trading scheme", the Commission last week predicted that by 2020 this could be raising £38 billion a year from electricity users. Of this, £6.5 billion a year would be paid by the UK, equating to £260 for every household in the country. -
- Yet when it was pointed out that this will put EU industries at a competitive disadvantage, the Commission's only response was to suggest tariffs on imports from countries such as China or America that are not signed up to Kyoto. -

"Two hundred and fifty tons may sound like a lot of “pollution.” It is for traditional pollutants like sulfur dioxide and particulates. But 250 tons is a miniscule amount of CO2—roughly the quantity emitted each year by two dozen average homes.
“Major” CO2 sources would include “most large buildings heated by furnaces using fossil fuels (office and apartment buildings, even some very large homes), or buildings of any size using natural gas as a cooking source in a commercial kitchen (such as restaurants, hotels, for-profit hospitals and nursing homes, malls, sports arenas), or businesses that generate or use CO2 naturally as a component of its operations (soda manufacturers, bakers, breweries, wineries),” notes the Chamber letter. All such establishments “may exceed the 250-ton-per year threshold for CO2 emissions."
Fortunately common sense prevailed and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) denied California a waiver, under the Clean Air Act, to set first-ever carbon dioxide (CO2) emission standards for new motor vehicles.
How could they be so stupid? These people are supposed to be saving the world - more like killing it with kindness!!!

27/1  How Ironic that the Russians know all about the coming little ice age but we in the "free" West don't because it is politically incorrect...
"By the mid-21st century the planet will face another Little Ice Age, similar to the Maunder Minimum, because the amount of solar radiation hitting the Earth has been constantly decreasing since the 1990s and will reach its minimum approximately in 2041," he said.
The Maunder Minimum occurred between 1645 and 1715, when only about 50 spots appeared on the Sun, as opposed to the typical 40,000-50,000 spots.
It coincided with the middle and coldest part of the so called Little Ice Age, during which Europe and North America were subjected to bitterly cold winters.
"However, the thermal inertia of the world's oceans and seas will delay a 'deep cooling' of the planet, and the new Ice Age will begin sometime during 2055-2060, probably lasting for several decades," Abdusamatov said." - He's right

Then, of course, while you're half way around the world your intrepid reporter has a nice pacific island break on Tuvalu. Tuvalu is supposed to be sinking under as sea level rises. It isn't. Tuvalu is a coral atoll and it only exists because coral can grow 10 times faster than the sea level can rise (yes Virginia the sea level has risen since the last ice age - the English Channel is only about 10,000 years old).

23/1  The "New Statesman" squibs out. An interesting conflict in the "New Statesman" with a pathetic retraction of the original "Has Global Warming stopped" http://www.newstatesman.com/200712190004 article. It does their resident Greenie Mark Lynas no justice at all here -
http://www.newstatesman.com/200801140011  His hysterical reaction is quite amazing.
He writes...
"Although CO2 levels in the atmosphere are increasing each year, no-one ever argued that temperatures would do likewise
"
WRONG - The UK Hadley center did just that last year and again this year AND this GISS - "2007 Was Tied as Earth's Second-Warmest Year" http://www.giss.nasa.gov/research/news/20080116/  "The eight warmest years in the GISS record have all occurred since 1998, and the 14 warmest years in the record have all occurred since 1990."
Then Mark Lynas quotes GISS TEMP - that is thermometer data relative to a 1951 to 1980 mean temp. Now, clever reader, you already know that by selecting your start and finish points like that you can make your curve do what ever you like and that's just what Mr Hansen (I'm being suppressed by deniers") has done to make the Global Temp in GISS TEMP follow his computer models and keep rising (see 19/1 below)
There is only one true way of measuring Global Temps, land and ocean, and that's with the NASA RSS satellite data which the original article referred to.
Then Mr Lynas gets really silly. He claims that 99% of scientists contend that AGW will have "some pretty catastrophic consequences
" - Yeah Right! - when was that survey taken?!
Then he goes from the sublime to the ridiculous - "
If the 99% are wrong, and the 1% right, we will be making some unnecessary efforts to shift away from fossil fuels, which in any case have lots of other drawbacks and will soon run out. I’d hate to offend anyone here, but that’s what I’d call a no-brainer."
WRONG - Alarmists demand almost immediate cuts of over 50% in Coal and Oil consumption - that's not just an "effort" - that's radical.
Fossil fuels may have "drawbacks" but they are the lifeblood of our whole civilization and they are cheap which means we can all use them.
Fossil fuels will NOT "soon run out". There is enough Shale Oil to last well over a hundred years and enough coal to last hundreds of years even if it is also processed to produce liquid fuels.
The reaction to this article is heartening - we seem to be winning at last - almost all 218 respondents dismiss Mr Lynas' sloppy arguments.

"no I think the Bush Administration has been trying to apply some reasonable adult supervision to UN climate talks" - 'on ya Myron!

19/1  This ABC item is annoying me - http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/01/17/2140238.htm?section=justin - "2007 second-warmest year in 100 years: NASA" - I was hoping someone else would succinctly demolish it but they haven't -yet - so I'll have to.
First - This is not satellite data - the NASA satellite data is here - RSS - http://www.remss.com/msu/msu_data_description.html - it is completely different to the results from the GISS results referred to in the item. In fact this graph - http://home.austarnet.com.au/yours/Verification_of_IPCC_predictions-annotated.html - shows it is very different from all the other main global temperature recording organizations. (The RSS data e.g. measures the whole Earth - land and ocean.)
Second - This GISS (Goddard Institute) data referred to by the ABC item is land surface data and there are several bloggers constantly attacking it for methodology, mainly due to the heat island effect of so many of the weather stations, but also because it is tweaked or "adjusted". Recently the bloggers discovered that some of that "adjusting" was wrong - in favour of G. Warming - and GISS had to make an embarrassing correction - see GISS themselves refer to this on their webpage - http://www.giss.nasa.gov/research/news/20080116/ .
Now I notice a fancy graph there on GISS showing global temp. going up and up - very impressive until you see it is "relative to the 1951 to 1980 mean" - this is pure sophistry - by carefully picking your start and end points for an average you can make your fancy graph show anything you like - 1951 fer crissake! - why 1951? and why 1980 for that matter?
Third  GISS is run by the infamous Dr Hansen. He got so heavily into the media politics he wasn't doing his job and NASA warned him. He started squealing "I'm being suppressed by deniers" in the media and they had to back off.
Mr Hansen is a computer modeler and he believes - he really believes - in his models. He has an awful lot invested in his computer model based prognostications. He has had many congressional hearings - tons of media exposure - books - and then there is the almost million dollars he got from the Sorous Foundation and the Sierra Club. He recently compared the coal industry to the holocaust - the coal wagons were like the cattle trucks going into the crematoria (see third blog 27/11below). He will vigorously attack anyone who disagrees with him - the bluster over the "error" in his work shows that.
But.
No matter how much Mr Hansen tweaks his models and adjusts his data, it looks like he is still going to loose his audience as he stands on his soap box plaintively wailing about doomsday while the globe obviously not only stops warming but actually starts cooling underneath him.
As Herman Goering once said "oh well at least I had eight good years"!

Here, http://www.speaker.gov/blog/?p=427 on one such a junket -
'Below are photos from the Congressional Delegation (CODEL) boat tour of Disko Bay, Greenland. They were in Disko Bay to examine the ice flow from glaciers. During the peak summer melt months, enough water melts from Greenland’s glaciers everyday to supply New York City with water for a year. In Greenland, Speaker Pelosi saw the first-hand evidence that climate change is a reality commenting, “there is just no denying it. We saw the impact on the local people there, on their hunting, their fishing, their economic survival. And it wasn’t caused by the people in Greenland. It was caused by the behavior in the rest of the world.”'
Ice melts in summer - like, uh - DURH!!!

17/1  Coral Reefs - next time you are told the Great Barrier Reef is threatened by G. Warming please remember these articles which refer to the real science...
http://www.co2science.org/scripts/CO2ScienceB2C/subject/c/summaries/coralhistory.jsp - "Taken together, these several real-world observations of both the past and present suggest that earth's coral reefs are quite capable of maintaining themselves, and even flourishing, in the face of rising atmospheric CO2 concentrations and/or temperatures if humanity's many localized assaults upon them (increased physical destruction, heightened pollution, augmented sedimentation, etc.) do not destroy them first, which is also a primary concern of Precht and Aronson. It is upon these latter affronts to coral health that we must focus our attention if we ever hope to save them."
And - http://www.co2science.org/scripts/CO2ScienceB2C/articles/V11/N3/EDIT.jsp - "
Because of these facts, the Australian researchers say there is no need for an acute disturbance, such as bleaching, to induce clade or sub-clade change. Instead, if ocean temperatures rise to new heights in the future, they foresee juveniles naturally hosting more heat-tolerant sub-clades and maintaining them into adulthood."
17/1  In the fine tradition of blocking the huge dutch style levies that would have saved New Orleans (http://home.austarnet.com.au/yours/New%20Orleans.html)  - the Sierra club, a left wing Think Tank with huge resources, now puts their money to work to delay new power stations in the USA. Here - http://www.newsobserver.com/business/v-print/story/880925.html -
'
"Our goal is to oppose these projects at each and every stage, from zoning and air and water permits, to their mining permits and new coal railroads," said Bruce Nilles, a Sierra Club lawyer who directs the group's national coal campaign. "They know they don't have an answer to global warming, so they're fighting for their life."'

"Nilles said the Sierra Club spent about $1 million on such efforts in 2007 and hopes to ratchet that figure up to $10 million this year."
Of course the Sierra Club does not have the answer to Global Warming either. There is no answer to Global Warming - except more global poverty.  Using hugely expensive "alternative power" would throw the US economy into reverse and the same futile delaying tactics can also be used on nuclear power.
Cheap power and fuel have brought prosperity to the masses - no more cheap power and fuel - no more prosperity - quite simple really.

15/1  I discovered this old John Laws interview with Prof. Bob Carter - on the day after the G. G. W. Swindle documentary came out - before the UK High Court dissected Al Gore - before the empirical evidence of the influence of the solar wind on the cosmic ray flux and thus cloud formation - before the total lack of CO2 G.W. signature in the upper troposphere was discovered - but still very relevant and It is now 10 years, not 8, since the Globe stopped warming.
2 parts - http://svc028.wic002tp.server-web.com/sound_JL/carter%20one.mp3 AND http://svc028.wic002tp.server-web.com/sound_JL/carter%20two.mp3

15/1  I keep saying that the Satellite records show no warming, well this graph shows a number of other temperature records and none of them go anywhere near the more dire "projections" of the UN IPCC. here  http://home.austarnet.com.au/yours/Verification_of_IPCC_predictions-annotated.html

15/1  An Interview (as opposed to a statement) with Cardinal Pell against Global Warming Alarm - "Cardinal George Pell on the latest hysterical substitute for religion." http://www.ignatius.com/Magazines/CWR/pell_jan08.html
Normally I'd be telling the good priest to stick his pontifications in an appropriate orifice, along with poofter bashing, perverted celibacy, no birth control etc., but he is spot on with the "hysterical substitute for religion" bit - I welcome him aboard.

14/1  How the ABC lies to us - This Trite Bit of rubbish - "Antarctica Shrinking Faster" http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/01/14/2137666.htm?section=justin  has grossly distorted the original BBC article it references.
The BBC science writer points out in his well balanced article here - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/4767296.stm a few salient facts...
The article is based on variations in the Earths Gravity - it is claimed that the Satellites can measure a reduction in the Earth's Gravity over Antarctica and so this must be G. Warming - a very dubious proposition by itself -

BUT - it then becomes very fanciful when we find out "Grace is unable to discriminate between ice and rock. And the rock surface of Antarctica, below the ice sheet, is rising." (Sic - Grace are the satellites).

THEN The whole thing becomes ridiculous when we find out once again the it is all based on virtual reality - computer models! "The new research paper attempts to correct for this by estimating the rate of rise through computer models of the Earth's interior. But uncertainties in the models produce uncertainties in the team's estimates of changes to the ice: the annual loss could be as low as 72 cubic km, or as high as 232 cubic km."

Uncertainty in the models indeed - it is absurd to claim to be able to model the Earth's interior - Jules Verne stuff - gimme-a-break as they say.

Here is the text of the ABC article...
"Antarctica shrinking faster: study
Posted 2 hours 54 minutes ago
A study has found the rate at which Antarctica is losing ice due to climate change is accelerating.
In what is believed to be the most detailed study carried out, scientists have measured exactly how fast the ice sheets are cracking.
([Sic] - The ice sheets are never claimed to be cracking they are not cracking - crevasses do form due to movement but the ice is well over a Kilometer deep.)
Investigators from five countries, led by NASA, used radar and satellite imaging to build the most complete picture ever of Antarctica's glaciers.
([Sic] - This is a lie - the satellites referred to measure gravity - radar shows Antarctica is thickening and imaging shows a record sea ice extent in winter).
In a space of 10 years the mass of ice falling into the ocean has grown significantly.
([Sic] - Big Deal! If true, that just proves more ice is feeding the glaciers - ice is accumulating - not melting!)
In 2006 the west Antarctica ice sheet lost 132 billion tonnes of ice, compared to 1996 when 86 billion tonnes was lost.
([Sic] - The WEST Antarctic ice sheet is where most of the Greenie Scientists are - up on the peninsular where it's warmer - but it is trivial - The EAST Antarctic ice sheet contains 80% of the worlds ice, sits in a bowl, and is over 2km thick - it ain't cracking or moving and it ain't melting any time soon - come back in a hundred thousand years!.)
-BBC"
Then of course there is the little minor detail that the supposed increase of less than 1 degree in the worlds temp. could not possibly be causing the claimed mass loss and the other little detail that the Globe just stopped warming 10 years ago - but let's not spoil their big disaster theory - it makes such good copy!

12/1    To those predicting doom and gloom in the Oil market - Shale Oil in Canada - to name but one - is waiting to go...  http://www.financialpost.com/story.html?id=228608

11/1    This article...  http://www.csmonitor.com/2008/0110/p14s01-sten.html. is a prime example of how you can never win with these people - like I say in "Greenhouse Bullcrap" it's like trying to convince an "intelligent design" person that biology proves Darwin was right (if you change the conditions in a petri dish the bacteria most suited to the change multiply and prevail. You can see it.)  - they just shrug it off and keep going on. The article says well yes the Antarctic has set near records in sea ice extent and is cooling not warming, but it is different to the Arctic and does show some signs of Global Warming - AAARGH!
If Global Warming is melting the Arctic then it must be melting the Antarctic and it just isn't - it astounds me how they keep picking out examples of Global Warming and just get away with ignoring the Elephant in the room - the Globe stopped warming 10 years ago - only satellites can measure the whole Earth and it has only warmed a trivial 0.8 degrees and that was due to the 1998 spike which the Earth quickly corrected all by itself.

11/1   New Zuland Herald attacks G. Warming...  http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/2/story.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=10485990&pnum=0

9/1  Stupid idea # 2746 - "EU considering climate Tax on imports" They are going to put import barriers on countries that do not meet or have to meet a Kyoto target. They love trade barriers in Europe don't they? Just as well it's only external trade - almost none of them are going anywhere near meeting their own Kyoto targets - The Gall of  it is breathtaking - who do they think they are?  http://euobserver.com/9/25400

9/1  I keep saying "the satellite data now shows the globe stopped warming 10 years ago" - here's the data to prove it... http://www.remss.com/msu/msu_data_description.html

9/1    I see our embarrassment of the year, Mr superslick, smooth talking, Flummery, has been oiling his way around the supergreen, diesel dike, corridors of the ABC, pushing his wind project.
Seems they've now cornered 2 Billion dollars of our Super Money from Macquarie Bank - who should have more sense. There are really big snouts in that money trough now!
Now why would the NSW Government put highly expensive wind power out in the middle of nowhere when a very large part of the energy it does produce (it is a real surprise that the desert has so much wind - quite astounding really - but I believe them - millions wouldn't, but I believe that Broken Hill is very windy) will go to heating up the 1200km of high tension wire slung between the pylons - like some gigantic radiator bar?
Of course the wind farm project would link up very neatly with Mr Flummery's geothermal project out there too - Auntie should be getting a commission - or free shares at least!.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/01/08/2133823.htm?section=justin
video - http://www.abc.net.au/news/video/2007/10/09/2054250.htm - notice how he squibs the question of how expensive the power is, I had to rewind it - a masterpiece of obfuscation.
and here - The Flummery link - http://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/prod/parlment/HansArt.nsf/V3Key/LC20071017026   - "and it has been done probably as a result of a statement by Tim Flannery on the television program Lateline"
So sad  - we really needed that 2 Billion.
(Since satellites now show that G. Warming stopped 10 years ago perhaps the giant radiator bar will help stop G. Cooling!)

8/1  Brrrr Where Did Global Warming Go?  http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2008/01/06/br_r_r_where_did_global_warming_go/

"In South America, for example, the start of winter last year was one of the coldest ever observed. According to Eugenio Hackbart, chief meteorologist of the MetSul Weather Center in Brazil, "a brutal cold wave brought record low temperatures, widespread frost, snow, and major energy disruption." In Buenos Aires, it snowed for the first time in 89 years, while in Peru the cold was so intense that hundreds of people died and the government declared a state of emergency in 14 of the country's 24 provinces. In August, Chile's agriculture minister lamented "the toughest winter we have seen in the past 50 years," which caused losses of at least $200 million in destroyed crops and livestock."

If the alarmists can cite obsure examples of global warming why can't cynics cite obsure examples of global cooling?!

8/1   Lies damn lies and statistics. The Hadley Center gets almost all its funding from Global Warming payola. Last year it stupidly predicted 2007 would be 60% likely the warmest year ever. 2007 got nowhere near that, so they have hedged their bets this year by predicting 2008 will be within the ten warmest years - good headline material - BUT - very good odds because the global records only go back to the late 1970s and as the following link proves there is statistically only a 1 in 40 chance that 2008 will be outside the ten warmest years - a very good bet indeed... http://www.worldclimatereport.com/index.php/2008/01/04/the-hadley-center-tries-again/  (actually they could still get egg on face - the Global temps. seem to be dropping quite rapidly as the solar wind drops and makes cloud cover increase).

The Audubon Society lawsuit targets four raptor species - golden eagle, red-tailed hawk, American kestrel and burrowing owl - which suffered 456 to 1,129 fatalities per year, the study estimated."  http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/01/02/MNITTM9FA.DTL

6/1  New York Times - "In 2008 a 100 percent chance of alarm." There is a lot of media against G.W. coming out now but the NY Times is a big one.

Carbon Trading will exacerbate the petrol price rises we’ve already seen. Our power bills will also go through the roof and we will not be able to fly anymore. Our great egalitarian society will be polarized into rich and poor – the rich will have all our nice new freeways all to themselves.
Carbon Trading just provides excuses to go on producing Carbon Dioxide.

Water Vapour is a Greenhouse Gas - it is typically, on average, about 10,000 ppm(vol) in air. Its molecule has a greenhouse effect many times that of carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide at 370ppm(vol) is in effect so trivial that it has virtually no effect on the Earth's temperature at all. It can only affect the Earth's temperature by tweaking inputs and assumptions fed into computer models.

Global Warming has never been seriously challenged, but it pretends to be science and these scientific documents refute Global Warming as a Scientific Hypothesis.
