WBANQ Small Boat Picnic Day - 21 October 2007
Dear WBANQ Members, Friends and Guests,
Who
The Wooden Boat Association of North Queensland (WBANQ) Members (both big and small boat owners alike) Friends and Guests
What
The second biannual Small Boat Picnic Days on 21 October and we want to see you and your boat there. This Picnic Day is less structured that the last with the dual focus of time on the water and engaging with the public with the view of increasing membership of the Association. Members are encouraged to invite interested members of the public to join them on the water.
Why To have FUN messing around in boats. The Small Boat Picnic Day is a family orientated event involving members of the WBANQ and non-member guests with wooden boats or an interest there in. The aim of the event is for members and guests to enjoy their boats in the company of like-minded people. It is also an opportunity for the Association to promote itself to the public.
Where
Rossiter Park and Alpins Weir. Rossiter Park is on Kimball St Aitkenvale via Chambers St or Kenealy St, Telephone Book Map No 9 Square N 12. Vehicle access for trailer boats is opposite Chambers St. BBQs and picnic tables have been reserved for our use on the day, as has the pontoon. The boat ramp into Alpins Weir is open to the WBANQ for the day. See the attached Rossiter Park map. A Picnic Day HQ will be located in the BBQ area.

Bits and Pieces
Safety
All skippers are to comply with the requirements of Maritime Safety Queensland as applicable to their craft.
Boat Ramp
The boat ramp is rudimentary but proved satisfactory for the previous picnic day. Owners of trailer craft with conventional vehicles may wish to inspect the ramp prior to the picnic day and if necessary make friends with the owner of a four wheel drive vehicle.
Photographs
You are encouraged to bring your digital camera. We all have photos of other folk’s boats but it is hard to take photos of our own boat in its full glory when we are in the jolly thing. You are encouraged to take many photos and share them after the event.
AlcoholTo keep it simple this time around there is no alcohol licence.
Facilities
There are two BBQs and four park benches in the reserved area. It may be prudent to bring collapsible chairs etc.
Planning To assist planning it is requested that members and guests attending contact me, email dnssouth@bigpond.net.au or Ph 4789 1897 prior to 16th October. If there is no answer wait for the 101 message and leave details. After the 16th October please liaise with Peter Whalley-Thompson Ph 4781 5881 BH.
The End Bit
This is the second Small Boat Picnic Day for the year and it is hoped to build on the success of the first event. The location has been retained due to the excellent facilities and the desire to build public interest. I encourage all to attend and bring a guest or two
