Wooden Boat Association
of
North Queensland

The Wooden Boat Association of North Queensland is an active group of people who have an interest in timber boats. Our current members comprise both owners and lovers of all types of wooden craft from canoes, skiffs and trailerable yachts to cruising yachts and powered craft.

The Association was formed in Townsville in 1995 to act as the host organisation for the first North Queensland Wooden Boat Show held that year. That show was held annually from then until 2004 when it changed to the biennial Port of Townsville Wooden Boat Festival.

The Association also indulges in a number of other social and community activities. These include day sails to barbeque locations on our many neighbouring islands, a regular Clean-up-Australia "beat" at West point on Magnetic Island, and an annual Auction Dinner. There is also an annual display of small boats at Centre Stage in the Townsville Mall, timed to promote the Festival proper.

We also arrange occasional joint activities with the Cairns branch of the Wooden Boat Association.

There are regular meetings on the first Monday of each month at 1800h at the Victoria Park Hotel (Boundary Street) for the transaction of Association business and the exchange of news and views. New and prospective members are welcome.

We issue a quarterly newsletter called the Rum Bucket and members also receive the national newsletter, Watercraft.
