A weakening front was due to go through southern coastal districts in the afternoon of this day with isolated showers. Soon after lunch however, the sky increasingly looked unstable. A few light showers and virga came out of mid-level alto-cumulus. An area of vorticity and a small low had formed on the front south of KI. About 3.30pm the showers evident in the western sky and on radar suddenly started to look ominous and form the appearance of a squall line. Sure enough, within 20 minutes a strong squall line had formed along the coastline. It was quite brief and quick but dumped a very heavy shower on us with small hail. No lightning was observed until just after it had passed. I walked out onto the road to get a better look at what had just passed when BANG! A Cg pumps itself down right in front of me - well about a km in front of me. Only one other rumble was heard afterwards. This line continued in a weakened state right through to the Victorian border but still produced isolated hail and the occasional lightning.
