The best new emerging jazz talent from the UK proves well able to match it with the world's finest.
Independent label GLP proudly struts a firm commitment to excitement and originality. This superb 11-track sampler runs the gamut from the smokin' big band swing of Steve Parry to the saxy late-night sounds of Russell Van Den Berg. Elsewhere the inventive Jamil Sheriff Octet does a modern post-bop take on a couple of tracks, with 'Sly Dog Blues' a certainty to get the toes tappin'.
In all six artists are featured, including Ellingtonia fanatic Tony Faulkner and topnotch pianist Wayne Pollock. With the tendency of the big labels to play it safe on the commercial front it is refreshingly satisfying to see GLP willing to back exciting new original music.
