The lead guitarist from rock band Wilco explores the music of veteran jazz pianist Andrew Hill.
Cline says that this is not a conventional tribute record, but rather, "It is a view - one view - into the music of Andrew Hill, an artist whose music has continued to change and expand its parameters." Utilising a somewhat atypical sextet Cline transforms Hill's music into something completely new and unique.
The personnel includes Ornette Coleman disciple Bobby Bradford on cornet, clarinettist Ben Goldberg, Andrea Parkins on electric accordion, bassist Devin Hoff, drummer Scott Amendola and Alex Cline on percussion. Overall the music is far less moody than Hill's own work, at times almost taking on a free-flowing carnival atmosphere of invention and originality.
