A resort host (Ricardo Montalban) and his diminutive sidekick somehow manage to make the wishes and fantasies of their guests come true. But, of course, there is always a morally reflective catch to things. Long-running hit series that took advantage of the premise to parade a host of well-known guest stars through the credits.

Michael Landon starred in this story of an angel sent by 'The Boss' to buddy up with an ex-cop and go around showing people a better way. Some (perhaps many) found all the moralising a bit overbearing, but the quantum niceness managed to attract a family audience that kept the show chugging along for five seasons.

A wave of fan protest saw this show survive cancellation in its first season to become one the highest rated shows on CBS. An angel and her supervisor help troubled people by letting them know that God hasn't forgotten them. Occasionally the not-so-bad Angel of Death offers assistance as well. Real tear-jerking stuff.

Early Edition
90 episodes (1996-2000) 60m

A stockbroker whose life is a mess ends up in a hotel room after his wife throws him out. The next morning a cat shows up at the door with the a newspaper containing tomorrow's news. Once past the natural urge for self-profit he sets about saving lives and heading off tragedies. Nice premise that deserved its healthy four season run.

Created by Shaun Cassidy, this is an offbeat horror show about a small-town sheriff, Lucas Buck, who for all intents & purposes is the devil incarnate. A brief run on CBS and a repeat on the Sci-Fi Channel was the only chance it got, however, much to the dismay of its steadily-building fan base. May be set for a reprieve on DVD.

Charmed

Long-running series about a sister-act trio of beautiful witches who together, as it is written, are the Charmed Ones. They team up to vanquish all manner of demon while coming to grips with their own emotional needs. Star Shannen Doherty left after season three, with witches' half-sister Paige filling the void thereafter. Good show.

While working as an attendant at a morgue Tru Davies discovers she has a special gift. Tru helps out people who weren't supposed to die by reliving the days leading to their mishaps. At the end of the first season we learn that someone is actually working against her. Good series that is developing a solid fan base.

The Dresden Files

Based on Jim Butcher's series of novel about a private investigator who happens to be a wizard, regrettably this show never quite got off the ground. Starring the affable Paul Blackthorne as Harry Dresden the episodes that were made are all topnotch. Plenty of demons, werewolves and vampires to keep viewers occupied and some nice chemistry with co-star Valerie Cruz.
