New York is a city in need of healing… and Sam loves the place and its people more than anything in the world.
As a teenager every Saturday author Gregory Hoffman would walk from the Upper Eastside of Manhattan to the Twin Towers and back. He says that, "During those adventures I was deeply submerged into the magical presence of the city."
On the run from a bad report card Sam meets Elijah, a physically imposing Rasta who asks him for his sneakers. Thus begins an adventure that sees Sam make direct contact with the city's spirit. When a beautiful princess magically cleanses the city it falls to Sam and his friends to take on a host of modern urban evils.
Hoffman pens an enchanting fantasy with believable young characters facing very real life issues. Young adults should lap up the magical realism on display in this fine book.
