Brief History: The first Poultry Society was established on the 20th December 1854 in Hobart Town, Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) it was called The Ornithological Society of Tasmanian, they held their first show on the 2nd of January and a second show in May 1855. From 1857-1931 the society was known as the Tasmanian Poultry Society, It held a number of shows with the Tasmanian Kennel Club and the Hobart Poultry Club and by 1945 was know as the Tasmanian Poultry & Kennel Club amalgamating the Hobart Poultry Club. Finally the Kennel Club absorb the poultry clubs and poultry members joined The National Utility Breeders Association established 1939, which later became The Southern Tasmania Poultry Club in 1959. Bicentenary of Tasmania: In 2004, Tasmania will mark the European exploration and settlement that took place in the period between 1772 and 1804, to celebrate, Some community groups and organizations will stage special events to mark this occasion. Our show will be one of these events, celebrating the last 150 years of poultry exhibition in Australia. We have permission from the Bicentenary Council to use their logo on all our awards and ribbons. A special Tasmanian designed medallion marked with the bicentenary and our clubs show logo will be given to all exhibitors. These will be of a limited number and will become a collectors item in years to come. Historical Display: This displays will feature the history of Tasmanian poultry clubs and members over the last 150 years. There will also be documentation and items dating back to 1854. Should be quiet interesting. Awards: Service to poultry awards will be given to those poultrymen who have contributed to the fancy They will be honored at the official dinner, on the Saturday night. Best of Breed Sponsorship Ribbons: Part of our sponsorship program for the 2004 show will be the sale of Best of Breed Ribbons cost will be $20.00 and the trophies $15.00. Specialty Breed Clubs Information Display: If you would like your breed to be on display at our show please send down your clubs promotional materials and membership forms.
