WELCOME

Hello, my name is Moira Liggins and I would like to welcome you to my small cattery which is situated 25Km South of Cairns in the town of Gordonvale at the foot of Walsh's Pyramid. I have always had cats as a child and became interested in breeding a few years ago when I was living in Sydney.

I am breeding Persians and Exotics (shorthaired Persians) in the pattern range of solids, tortoishells, tabbies and bi-colours in the following colours: red, blue, blue cream, black, white. This is the home of the Wilashalyn prefix.

This season after a break of three years I will be breeding a limited number of white Persians and Exotics.

I have teamed up with Andree Holden of Lilcherubs Cattery who is based in Taree, NSW who is also concentrating mainly on Exotics. Andree's contact mobile number is 0429 085 258 and her email address is lilcherubs78@bigpond.com.

HISTORY

Today's Persians are mostly descended from cats brought to Britain from Turkey and Persia in the late nineteenth century. In the USA Persians are classied by colour whilst in the UK they are called Longhairs and each colour is classified as a seperate breed.

All Persians have a cobby body with a round face and head, short thick legs, a short nose and large eyes. Persians have a double coat because it consists of two types of hair - long soft, woolly undercoat and slightly longer coarser guard hairs.

The White is considered to be one of the oldest longhair breeds coming with orange eyes, odd eyes and blue eyes with cats with the blue eyes being subject to deafness. At birth all kittens have blue eyes and at the age of 5 weeks their eyes start to change colour.

Persians are loving, affectionate, placid, prefer indoor living but need daily grooming and regular bathing to keep their gorgeous coat in good condition.
