GenealogyThis photo is of my maternal grandparents, John MacKenzie and Mary Catherine (nee Sinclair), and my great aunt and uncle, Annabella (nee Sinclair) and John MacIntosh taken in 1908. I have a Family Tree Maker program and, when I have time, I try to put some family information together. My father's family came from England and he had a great uncle who emigrated to Canada; my mother was born in Scotland and when my maternal grandparents emigrated to Australia others in the family emigrated to Canada and America - so the information I need is scattered worldwide!
I am looking for relatives named Brentnall, McKenzie, Trenfield, Green, Sinclair, Dunnet, Mackay and others I haven't worked out yet.
I attended a seminar on using the net for genealogical research at Penrith Library and the teacher, Lorraine, has put together a good site Family History on the Internet.
Pets
I have 3
gorgeous cats. Max is 8 years old, ginger and white in colour and nervous in
disposition. He saved my sanity when I was bedridden for a while following a car
accident. One day he was sitting under a bush and swishing his tail in the grass
when a kookaburra thought "There's a nice snake for my supper!" and swooped. To
this day he has a kink in the middle of his tail.
KC (short for
Kit Cat) is 6 years old and grey and white. He is my $600 cat. I found him when
he was about 4 weeks old suffering from a multitude of problems. He is very
healthy now, is very affectionate and very inquisitive! He especially takes an
interest in bird life of all kinds. Here he is checking closely the bird
documentary on television.
Wimsey
(named after Lord Peter) is 5 years old and black and white. He has the appetite
of an Amazon and looks like a sumo wrestler! Mum says he should
have been called Oliver (please can I have some more?) and I can't go to the
kitchen for a glass of water without a little shadow at my feet! He always looks
for the most comfortable place in the house for his naps. Here he has found
Mum's lambswool cushion.
None of them are very courageous and the other neighbourhood cats think it's great fun to beat them up. Fortunately, my vet does home visits! Mum and Dad bought me a little plaque at the Alice Springs show that says, "Cats are like peanuts, you can't have just one!" so when they complain about my 3 cats I tell them it's their fault. My aunt and cousin gave me another plaque which says, "If you want the most comfortable seat in the house, move the cat!" Another truism! I wouldn't be without one of them, but all the same I think 3 is my limit.
My favourite pet site is PetStation and there is another good site for The Fund For Animals which was founded by one of my favourite authors, Cleveland Amory (The Cat Who Came For Christmas and The Cat And The Curmudgeon).
SportThis photo was taken of the Test Match between Australia and South Africa at the SCG in 1993. I think that Alan Border was batting in this picture. It was a very exciting match - the first after 33 years of apartheid - and the atmosphere in the packed ground was electric! I may not be able to play sports, although I have played a little golf, but I love watching. My 1st love is, of course, cricket. I was taken to the cricket every Saturday as a child when my dad and brother both played for a local comp team, and I more or less grew up with it. Cricket New South Wales is a great site to visit.
I also love to watch golf, tennis, American football and baseball (my brother-in-law in Alice Springs is a baseball umpire and he got me interested). In fact, there are very few sports that don't interest me.
