My '66 HR Holden Premier |
|---|
The car , HR 235-160, was purchased in Nov. 1998 from an old gentleman in Buderim, Queensland. It had been sold to him by Don Faulkner Motors in Ipswich on the 14th September 1966. The new owner had bought it off the showroom floor already optioned up with venetians, sunvisor, scratch plates, front and rear mudflaps, Air Chief push button radio, stone guard, locking petrol cap, left and right weather shields, chrome hood ornament and genuine headlight protectors. He had a property on the outskirts of Lowood and was obviously cashed up enough to be able to afford the vehicle and all its accessories. As a new model it must have looked spectacular sitting on the Faulkner showroom floor!!
When the Wivenhoe Dam was constructed, the owner sold what was left of his property (some had been resumed for the dam) and retired to Buderim where the car was only used to get to the shops etc.every now and again. The old chap died in 1992 and the car passed into the hands of his son who decided he didn't need it, hence the sale to me for $6500.
The car is unusual in that it has 'three on the tree' and 'front drum brakes'. Most Prems came with Powerglide transmission and disc brake front ends. It still sports its original Landsdown Gold paint /Arctic White lid, black and white plates and interior is mint with original carpets - Trim No. 892 E66. All chrome is original and stainless trims are perfect. Apart from trying to find a genuine set of wheel spats and taxi rail, the car will remain stock original (see my NASCO wish list). The car came with a new, unused insect protector which fits to the length of the grill with wing nuts - it was still wrapped in its original NASCO crinkle cardboard and had never been used. It is only fitted now during 'show-and-shines'. I have since found and fitted a parcel shelf and mint grab handles with original screws. I am running Penrite HPM 50 oil in the engine to reduce the blow-by. A genuine 104,000 miles have passed since it first hit the road with few miles anticipated being added, as the car is now a fine weather/family Sunday vehicle. Owners Manual, rare NASCO accessory brochure, original sales brochure, GMH Guardian Maintenanace book and various other documentation came with the car. Last service in book was done at 30,000 miles. Anyone after HR parts and accessories, I can recommend "HR Parts & Stuff" in Reservoir, Vic. Their number is (03) 9462-3345. Dave is the contact there.
