Power Test

Following are 3 consecutive tests that show the incredible power of Power Master speed controls. The tests were all conducted using my smallest speed control, the Micro Master 2, which at 18mm x 11mm x 7 mm, is not much bigger than the receiver plug. The picture left is of the Micro Master speed control, while the one to the right is a screen shot of the third test, which shows the general layout, Micro Master 2 connected between battery (silver item in background), and Multiplex Permax 600 motor with propeller. Also shown is the end of a Fluke clamp meter measuring current, and K type thermal probe wire on mosfet under heatshrink in Micro Master (yellow wire).

Test 1

Propeller                                        9 x 4 Master Airscrew

Battery                                          Charged 6 cell GP330 NiMH car pack

Mosfet Start Temperature              26.2 °C

Start Current                                  20 Amps

Run time                                       ~50 seconds

End Current                                  19 Amps

Mosfet End Temperature               41.8 °C

Test 2

Follows straight on from previous test

Mosfet Start Temperature              39.7 °C

Start Current                                  19.4 Amps

Run time                                       ~55 seconds

End Current                                  18.5 Amps

Mosfet End Temperature               41.5 °C (stabilised after about 10 seconds)

Test 3

Propeller                                        9 x 6 Taipan

Battery                                          Charged 8 cell LG Lion pack (8.4 V charged)

Mosfet Start Temperature              34 °C

Start Current                                  25 Amps

Run time                                       ~55 seconds

End Current                                  20.5 Amps

Mosfet End Temperature               51.5 °C, peaked at 52.4 °C

Additional Information

Performance at 25 Amps with 9 x 4 Master Airscrew propeller.

Micro Master 2 voltage loss            89 mV

Negative wire loss                          186 mV

Positive wire loss                            176 mV

Motor RPM                                   9,100 rpm

Maximum allowable Mosfet temp   170 °C (from specs)

It must be stressed that this is not a normal running situation for this controller. The tests were merely to prove the specs on this website are factual and tested.

If this is what my smallest controller will do, just imagine what Power Master VI or Skymaster 2 could do for you. Both are 4 times this powerful and Mini P2 max is twice as powerful.
