INFO FOR CORRECT INSTALLATION & PERFORMANCE OF VETPAK DEMO PROGRAM. Thank you for trying VETPAK(Demo). We believe that you will be delighted with what it can do for you. The DEMO version does not include a manual or free phone support. However, it will become apparent to you that the program is designed to be "intuitive". This means that it will probably behave as you, a veterinary surgeon, would expect it to behave. We have shipped you a representative set of files that constitute a working database. The files are real except that addresses, phone numbers etc have been randomised. You now have a working system with which to "play". SYSTEM. (1) You must have a mimimum of 600 KBytes free at the DOS prompt. If you don't you should consult your Dos manual +/or run MEMMAKER. (2) In you config.sys file make sure you have the following set files=100 buffers=30 (3) Make a directory called C:\VV to take your program files. from the root directory prompt type md vv and then ENTER INSTALLATION (1) Take the compressed self extracting file "vpak32d.exe" and copy it into the vv directory. Log onto the vv directory. (2) Extract it into its component files by typing:- vpak32d and then ENTER (3) Copy the file vv.bat into the root directory by typing copy vv.bat C:\ and then ENTER (4) Move to the root directory by typing cd\ and then ENTER (5) Always start the program from the root directory by typing vv ENTER It is possible to start from the \vv directory, but you will not pick up the colour settings nor certain printing settings and will not get proper performance. NOTE you are now welcome to try all the features of VETPAK. AT ALL TIMES you have access to intelligent-on-line-help. Just look at the 3 bottom lines for context-sensitive help . The help changes with every screen and every field and should answer all your questions about what to do next! HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR DEMO COPY OF VETPAK Now all is set for you to examine the program. From the prompt, type VV and then ENTER. The VETPAK ID screen will display, which you get rid of by hitting ENTER. Then one of 3 screens will display pointing out that you have a DEMO copy. A registered user does not get these screens. Hit enter again and you will be in the program proper. Start by looking up a client. You can look up a client by knowing the Surname, Firstname, Home phone number, occupation or petname. Try looking up Dennis Darby. Choose Surname, hit ENTER, and then type DARBY into the locator space. Then use the arrows to select Dennis and hit enter. You will notice that Dennis's details are now displayed. Notice that Dennis has 2 pets LEEK and DOLORES. Notice the flashing yellow flag beside Doloress Vax-due date, indicating that she is overdue. Try putting a new date say 12 months from todays date into that field, and notice that the flag disappears. The overdue flashing flag alerts you (and them) every time you open the customer file. Hold down the ALT key and hit the 1 key to examine pet #1 details (Leek). Change some of the details. Change the date of birth by 12 months and notice that this will be reflected in the AGE field on the main screen after you save the new details (by mouse clicking on the SAVE button, or by hitting the F2 key.). Check Doloress details similarly. Now add a 3rd pet name and enter details by hitting ALT_3 and filling in the fields on the screen. Then you could look at the history cards. Hit F4 key. A history card screen appears, time and date stamped. Note the down arrow at the left side... this indicates that there is at least one more record. Hit the down Arrow, and another history card will appear. This time both up and down arrows appear at the left side indicating that there are records both before and after this one. Keep hitting the down arrow until you get to the last history card. Select one of the cards and hit ENTER and you will notice that a cursor appears in the data screen. Up/down arrows will now allow you to scroll through the record and allow you to add or amend it as required. Add a couple of lines to the record and notice the automatic word-wrap at the end of a line, and the automatic scrolling. You may have in excess of 50 lines for each visit. Hit F2 to save the new info. Now create a new record of visit by hitting INS key. You will notice that an empty record card, stamped with time and date, awaits your input. We recommend you follow our convention of putting the pet name first in capitals, followed by visit details. F2 to save. Escape to get out of the history area. Then F2 to save any other details you may have altered on the main screen. This takes you back to the client selection screen. Go back into Dennis's record and check that the new data has in fact been saved. From the main screen, go to Printout, select history, select Dennis Darby, select Y for correct, than select printout to screen, and check that the data you entered has been picked up from Dennis's file and is displayed. If you have a printer connected, you can print it out. If it doesn't print correctly, you will have to configure your dot-matrix or laser printer to emulate an EPSON FX printer. This is usually done from the printer control panel in the case of a laser printer, or by changing some dip-switches in a dot-matrix. Consult your printer manual. Now go back to the client menu and create a new record by hitting INS key. Follow the prompts and watch the bottom 3 lines for on-line help. Back in the client menu try finding the new client file you have created by First name, Surname, Home phone number, occupation and by Petname. Now go thru all of the other menu options and discover for yourself all of the features available to you to make life easier and more productive. Check out the HOTKEYS listed on the bottom line. F6 will take you straight to the appointment schedule. Make a few appointments. Alter a few appointments. Get familiar with the built-in calendar function. ALT-Z takes you directly to a price list. ALT-I straight to the invoice function. ALT-F straight to the follow up reminder call feature. Make a reminder for today and one for tomorrow. Note how you will be nagged until you do something about it!! Dont forget to read the ON-LINE-HELP which is context-sensitive and available at all times. It actually makes the manual redundant once the program is installed. Be aware that this program will detect if you have a mouse installed and will allow you to use it. The mouse will make many procedures so much quicker and easier for you. Note that a "SNAKE" will appear on your screen if you do not use the computer for a time. This is normal and is our version of a screen-blanker. On occasions we may blank the screen completely. This is done to avoid "burn-damage" to your screen. To recover from a blanked screen just tap any key once or twice until your last work screen reappears. Be diligent in flagging all patients as "DEAD" as soon as you become aware of their demise. The computer will not select patients for reminder letters if they are flagged as dead. Avoids embarassing phone calls from distressed clients. Always fill in the vax-due and dental-due fields for each pet. Then not only will the system be able to generate reminder letters, but a flashing on-screen reminder will alert you every time a client screen is displayed. A powerful marketing tool is to point out this flashing flag to a client who has ignored your reminder letters. Almost invariably they will ask you to remedy the situation immediately. Make use of the or Fone Nagger facility. Once you have set a follow-up phone call for a certain date, a flashing on-screen reminder or nagger will be invoked and will not go away until someone has made the call and "signed for it". Always fill in the RECOMMENDED BY field at the time you create a new client record. This will invoke powerful client ranking procedures which you can use to grow your practice much faster. It will also enable the Recs: feature in the top right corner of the client screen. Recs : 0 indicates that this client has not recommended anyone else to you, whereas Recs: 49 indicates that this client has recommended 49 new clients to you. These are but a few of the features awaiting your discovery. Because this system has been performing reliably under real-life practice conditions for some years, we are confidant it will perform reliably for you.
