The Readings

Introduction

The content of this page, is to demonstrate and illustrate the amazing accuracy of a practiced Medium.   At Spiritualist Meetings, a demonstration is known as "The Proof".   For me, more than enough evidence was provided at my first 'Reading' to confirm and verify the existence of another World beyond this One.   Everything that happened after that, was still remarkable, and wondrous; yet natural and not so unexpected.

Like anybody else would have done, I tried at first, to find some other rational explanation.   There was none.   Believe me, I thought of every possibility.   The first thing that always comes to mind, is that the Medium has access to private and personal details.   As much as I knew it wasn't possible, I still confronted my daughter with the suspicion, that she had in some way let pieces of information slip.   After all, it was at her instigation that I went to see T.....     I was quickly satisfied that this was not the case.   For quite a long time, I wondered whether some form of telepathy was at work.   This idea was abruptly dismissed when at least one fact, completely unknown to me at the time, was verified.   There is no way of picking someone's brains, if that knowledge isn't there in the first place.

Having eliminated all else, save one rather implausible theory, I had to acknowledge that the Medium was a genuine clairvoyante, and that her unseen informants were able to communicate to her, a wealth of personal information of my past, present and future.   The only other feasible conception being a direct line between her and a Central Universal Bank of Knowledge.

First Reading - 29th November, 1988

Names and Facts Identification/Outcome
Beckwith or Beckworth I never did find this name among my ancestors,  although it does occur in two of the villages where they lived.    Having learned from television programmes like "Crossing Over" that names are difficult to pick up exactly, I know think that this was meant to be 'Babworth', the village where my grandmother was born.
Having been there and spent much time researching her family, it would have been a name that I might have picked myself as some identification - especially in view of the next statement.
Doing my family tree. This was correct.
Could see sheets of paper and the draft for a book. I was working on my memoirs, and had started a novel.     Neither finished yet.
T... said I must get on with these as they would be very successful. Will have to wait and see.
She then picked up on my eye problem.      Said it was making her eyes itch. My eyes are quite alright during the day, and there is no sign of any redness.      They only get irritable, after I have been asleep for at least a couple of hours.
Eyes getting worse. True at the time.
There was a big man with short black hair, glasses, maybe a specialist. Never identified.
Told me that I had a neck problem, she could sense something wrong with my neck. I had no idea about this at that time. Some time later, my doctor tried massaging my back, since eye problems can be associated with the spine.     I felt a severe stab of pain, and x-rays showed arthritis between two vertebrae just below my neck.
Said there was a Mavis connected with my mother. Perhaps. I was never able to ask her.
Started picking up music - piano and brass instruments. Dad drove us mad, teaching himself pieces on the piano.     He was born in Queensbury, home of Black Dyke Mills, and we went to see them play at the Royal Albert Hall.
Said Family was very musical. True. Mum always singing.     I played trumpet and guitar.      My son plays keyboard and guitar.
A man looking just like me, wearing glasses. Uncle Dick. Strangers used to take us for father and son.
Charles? Uncle Charlie.
Albert? Open personality. Grandfather. I dont think this was true of Albert.     But would be correct for Mum's Dad. Then again, Albert may have seen himself this way.
Man in uniform with peaked hat, and khaki uniform. Could have been Uncle Tom, or Uncle Douglas
Square face. This sounds like 'Uncle' Frank - very close friend of Mum and Dad.      Have pictures of him in uniform, but he was an officer in the RAF, and so blue uniform.
Not a long life. T.... said he was not family related but there was a very close connection with my family. 'Uncle' Frank died age 63. He and 'Aunty' Dolly shared house in Norfolk with Mum and Dad.     They remained close friends for rest of life.      Closer than family.
He had a deep dark set face. No doubt now.      This was 'Uncle' Frank.
Now T....could see lady with lump under arm...cystic fibrosis. Could be my first wife, or her twin sister - both living.....or somebody in the past.
Now, a man in uniform talking about Douglas. Uncle Douglas or his son Douglas - both in Spirit.
It was a quick passing - short of breath. Uncle Douglas died from chest infection, not sure about cousin Douglas.
T.... now being shown man in plane.. burning - parachuting into sea 'Uncle' Frank commanded an RAF Air Sea Rescue Base.     Can remember him telling me how bad it was when they picked up an airman badly burned.
I was going to be involved in some special job. This is referring to the extra curricular duties that I did to help Ede out when she was managing Retirement Villages.
Rupert? No idea who this might be.
Millie or Mildred? Again, cannot identify.
Connecting the name Stevens with moving. Our good friends Tom and Meg Stevens have been in the same house for years.     But last year our Solicitor in Cairns for our move here, was another Tom Stevens.
For Sale Sign - My House. House of that time, not sold until 1995.      But see reptition of this warning in the 1997 reading.
BigWoman with laugh.. .dark curly mousy hair.     Thick arms..played Piano.      Had highblood pressure...knew Dad..Very Musical Very Jolly. Don’t Know.      But Dad did often talk to people playing the Piano in Pubs.
Samantha? ..someone alive that I shall meet. Not yet.
Unorthodox way of getting work Retirement Village??
Sinus problem - trouble with nose.. has it been broken? Sinus yes, broken no.     (but I suspect some kind of hangover from a past life)
Son will have trouble One of Edith's sons.     He had trouble just after this reading.
There is someone in my family who keeps birds.
*****This is the clincher*****
I had no knowledge of anyone on either side of my family who kept birds.     Some months later when I went to England for my mother's funeral, I met my cousin June, whom I had not seen for 16 years.      After she left, an aunt said it was a pity that she had to go so soon, but she had to get home to help Rod with his birds.     Rod was June's second husband, and he had an Aviary.      I never met him.
****No telepathy at work here - I didn't know**
T...then asked,"Who is Olive" My mother, I replied in surprise, even though the medium asks that one only replies 'yes' or 'no'.
She went on to say that I was going to go to England. This was most unlikely, as it wasn't long since my last visit.     But it happened.
There will be a passing. Mum died just before Easter,1989 and I went for the funeral.
T...said that I was going to have an operation in the following October or November, and beware of general anaesthetics, as accidents do happen. The warning was from my father.     He had an operation in 1978, and he never came out of the anaesthetic, but remained in a coma for five weeks.      His death certificate reads 'cerebro-vascular accident'.     I did have a general anaesthetic myself in that October - for a wisdom tooth extraction, and some fillings.
Gallstones were mentioned as possible reason for op. and T... added 'they some- times cannot be traced as they can be as fine as grains of sand. This is interesting, because here an event in the past was being picked up.     Some 3 years earlier, I had a bad ache in the side, and had to have some tests done.      There was no trace of any gallstones, but the doctor still persisted, saying that they could be as fine as sand.     Turned out to be muscular problem.
Blue Blood - most definitely Royalty in the family. If you laugh at this, I shall have your head!     My mother was a Draffan, and the Draffans did have great lands in Scotland, including a Castle, until they lost all, when the Black Douglas fell out of favour.     The Draffans were closely allied to the Douglas who was a contender for the Scottish throne.     But in any case it is said that all English, who had grandfathers born in England, can all be traced back to King Edward I.    (due to his many alliances.)

Second Reading - 20th November, 1997

Names and Facts Identification/Outcome
Eyes T... Picked up on my eyes again, although she surely couldn't have remembered what she had said eleven years earlier.     She said there wasn't enough moisture and all I could do, was to be patient.      I had to accept that it was an annoying factor.
T...said that I have a very psychic and spiritualistic birth chart.      Also that I am highly mediumistic. Well I have certainly been picking up a lot of odd things over the years.
Guides are preparing me for something. These pages I am preparing now?
Father Present.      I have a sore neck, and he had it too. I still get occasional stabs of pain in the lower part of back of neck.     Dad did have curvature of the Spine.
Ache coming from lower spine.     Not exactly the same, but it is hereditary. Nerve pressing on lower spine, causing pain. This could refer to the times when I have had a severe ache in the back.      But one tends to forget.
Father used to write letters..being shown nice writing, the words flowing and neat. Don't think he was a letter writer.      But he did jot down many notes, and the writing is neat.      He started sketching and drawing when he retired.
He found it difficult to put his feelings into words. Held things in at times, even when he was worried.      I do the same and am like him in many ways. True when it comes to expressing myself orally, but have no difficulty when it comes to writing them down.
Can see this writing which is absolutely beautiful.     He may be bringing Grandfather into this. Now it makes sense.      I have a letter written by grandfather, which is a picture to see.     T.... is seeing this letter, I am sure.   Grandad's Letter View letter.  (Then click on 'Back'.)
Did Father wear a hat and smoke. Hat yes, but he gave up smoking early on.
Being shown the beautiful writing again. So this really all refers to my grandfather.      Every picture I have of him, and there are many, shows him wearing a hat.
Seeing Grandfather.      Above average height, slimmish man, wearing hat. True
Sensitive Man.      Did a lot of walking.      Used to walk down to the corner shop in the Village. Yes.      He really did do a lot of walking.      But I never went to Queensbury where he lived.
Has impression that this is in England, as it doesn't look like Australia.     He did a lot of reading. He never got further than Belgium and Switzerland, from England, as far as I know.     I can imagine him reading a lot.
Showing himself sitting in high back chair next to fire, reading and writing.      August significant. Don't have his birthdate, but he married in August,1889.     (Died January, 1958.)
Lady now present called Marjorie.     Died of Cancer between age 55 and 65. Not my cousin Marjorie - still alive at this time, to my knowledge.     Nor can it be mother's second cousin Marjorie as she is still living, and in her eighties.     But this confusion is typical. I spent the War Years as a child with a distant Aunt of my mother's.      Her daughter Marjorie was in same house until married.      Another possibility could be the mother of a fifth cousin, whom I found through ancestry research     I am now convinced that this was Auntie Bella coming through.
There is now a plump lady, not tall, about 5'4", called Ellis, or could first name Alice.      Very musical, liked to play the piano.      Inner ear problem, diabetes or epilepsy.      Had bad heart and passed quickly. No idea who this might be. But See First Reading...friend of Dad's. If Family could be Alicia Morris, gt.gt.grandmother.      I have no knowledge of her, other than relationship.
I am opening up clairvoyantly.     The '33's are their way of getting my attention. Which is what I had thought.
Showing an old fashioned gramophone.      Using the word gramophone, not record player.      As a child I spent hours glued to the old gramophone, watching the needle in the groove.    We always referred to it as 'the gramophone'. This would be from Dad, I think.      It was a feature in our living room, and stood in one corner.      Dated back to some time before the War, and the motor had burnt out.      So Dad spent hours, days, even weeks, rewiring the fine thin wire coil.      When he finished, the turntable went spinning round far too fast.      So he did something very unorthodox and quite dangerous.     He placed a jam jar full of water on the shelf beneath the turntable, amidst all the confusion of wires from the Radio and Valves.     Then he suspended two bolts from a piece of insulation board so that they hung parallel, and in the water.     He then connected the bolts up to the electrical circuit, and by moving the bolts apart, he was able to control the resistance, and thus the speed of the turntable.     As a child, I used to spend hours playing the two or three records that we had, watching the record going round.      He knew how much the gramophone meant to me, and it is the one object that he would pick on to show through the Medium.

There then followed a number of scenes, and facts, which could fit several homes, people, and characteristics of our family.     They included, a hallway with floral carpet and wallpaper; a very cold house, but warm room heated by fire; a mantlepiece clock, and a room full of knick knacks; a slim woman with white hair who wore glasses and was a good baker and cook; she had stomach problems, black outs and got dizzy.      This sounded like my mother until she was described as slim and never having put on any weight.      Again, this can be some confusion in the information coming through.      At times there can be a lot of people trying to get through, and messages can overlap, just like it does when you get one radio station broadcasting on top of another.

Then I was told that there was a big family, with six or more children, but lots of pregnancies, and some miscarriages.     My father was one of 7 sons, and mother was one of about 9 children, while both of her parents had many siblings.

Next my Family Tree was mentioned, and that more information would be coming in time.

As my reading continued, it looked as if it was all going to be hazy, with no outstanding identifiable persons or any of those little private events known only to myself and the departed.   But the very next words that T.... uttered were to change all that.   Yet not at the time.   Three years were to pass before it all began to happen.

By then I had all but forgotten what was predicted, and had to replay the tape. When I did so, much more clicked into place.     One has to be patient, for time as we know it, does not exist in Heaven.

T.... now came out with the startling news that there would be changes with where we were living. They were saying that it wasn't in the immediate future, but eventually.      Our property would be sold.      Somebody would say, either that we had outgrown where we were living, that it was too big, or that we would not want to live there any longer.      It wouldn't suit our lifestyle.  Return to First Reading. This sounded quite impossible.   We had only been in our new house at Hastings for eleven months, and it was everything we had ever wanted.     An enormous kitchen and family room area, a study on top of three bedrooms.     A bathroom with Spa, as well as the ensuite in the Master bedroom.      It was a delight and a home envied by all who saw it.      Not only that, I had great plans for the garden.      The only intimation that we might ever move, was our love for Cairns.     We had had a wonderful holiday in Tahiti a few years earlier.     Then, when we flew up to Cairns for a couple of weeks with Ede's daughter, it all reminded us so much of Tahiti.      Another year, another visit, and we murmured that if we ever did move again, it would be to Cairns.      The thought was just as quickly dismissed as an unobtainable dream, for land and house prices were well out of our reach.
There was a man called Henry.     A big man, and an ancestor. I think this could be Henri, my ex father-in-law.      Or it might just possibly be Mr.Henry, a neighbour from long ago, who was very close to our family.
T... now seeing a place in England beginning with 'B'.      There was a bridge which father or grandfather used to drive over. This would have to be Bradford.      There are plenty of bridges in the area.
Now being told that I have a funny walk.     Due to sore muscles.      They are saying that I should walk more.      Blood pressure goes up and down, and should be checked regularly. Dad was always telling me that I had a funny walk.      My daughter has inherited this characteristic.      He also used to like walking fast.      Blood pressure does fluctuate like mad, with any exercise, or stress.     Always remarked on by doctors who have examined me.
T.... then said that she was being shown a scene of me looking through some very old papers.      Dated 1870. I think that here she can see Granddad's letter of 1890, which is a work of art.      I have also been through many old documents when tracing ancestors.

Edith's late husband then came through.   At the time this was the most remarkable part of the Reading, lasting some twenty minutes.   Most of it was too private and personal to publish in these pages.   It left no doubt in my mind, nor Edith's when she heard the tape, that it was Dick.
Then it was back to myself, with messages about my son and his children.     There were to be changes in his work, significant and positive changes.     He would have an added workload, and more responsibility. T....could see him going to Asia, somewhere like Singapore or Japan. Everything fitted, except his going to Asia.      This has still not happened.
The subject changed again, and T.... said I would spend time on a computer, and would gain much knowledge from the Net.     It would become my Hobby, and I would talk to people through the Net. This message remained completely overlooked, until I replayed the tape, three years later.     Like the unlikely move from our new home, I tended to dismiss it. Sure I already had a computer, and did use it a lot, but I had no intention then of getting on to the Net.      It was some three months later that my son suggested that I do so.     As for finding encouragement from friends on the Net, to start writing again, well, that was far into the future.      In fact, within a month of our deciding to move to Cairns.
T.... continued, telling me that it was important to have something to leave behind, so that my children would not forget.     I had to put the past down in writing. I did continue writing my memoirs and other projects afterwards.
A jet black dog appeared at this point, and T.... could see two spirit dogs. I never had a dog of this description, although there were friends who did.
Now, a man with a moustache.      A Colonel.     Brown Hair. An old picture.     Very tall and slim. This sounds like Uncle Tom again.      See First Reading.      But am not sure if he ever reached the rank of Colonel. Once more it might be a bit of wishful thinking coming through from the other side.
Then, the third prediction to be carelessly put aside, until roused from it's sleep, three years later.   I was going to get a letter inviting me to a get-together, some kind of reunion.    It would come from some organisation, in the past, that I had once belonged to.       Like the other two forecasts, in the red panels above, it waited until March/April, 2000, when all three were fulfilled almost all at the same time.    The letter came the day before we flew to Cairns to size up the latest housing situation.   Even then I didn't remember the prediction.    It was only when I listened right through the tape again, to see what had been said about selling our house, that it clicked.    The letter was from the Aden Veteran's Association inviting me to join and to attend the first reunion in June, 2001, for all who had served in Aden.
T... reverted to my health.      This was coming through from Spirit rather than 'vibrations' picked up by the Medium.      They were saying that I easily got out of breath.     Also that my heart could miss a beat, and should be checked regularly. Breathlessness yes.      I mightn't have been aware of it myself, but I can remember being questioned by one of the doctors in Aden.      I was only delivering a message, but had climbed three flights of stairs, and I guess I was panting a bit.     As for anything wrong with my heart, I don't know that this is true.
Somebody called Jean.     Shortish with short lean brown hair.      Link to my mother. Could be Auntie Jenny.      But she was still alive at that time.      Again, there were a number of Jeans on my mother's side of the family.
There were so many people, who were there wanting to send a message.     There was for instance a Betty, and Doug who was of nuggety build and chubby.      He had a receding hair line. Well I do have a lot of ancestors, and my digging into the family tree could well have inspired them all to appear.      The trouble is that this is when lines get a bit crossed.     I am fairly sure that I know who Betty was, and Doug's description fitted Uncle Douglas, perfectly.   Return to First Reading.
We were then back to my work on the Garden.      I was doing some re-arranging, and was warned to be careful not to injure my back.      Was told it will look beautiful when finished, and the move would happen when I had the garden the way I wanted it. T..... could see Trellis with creepers and a climbing rose.     It looked very pretty. This did make me gasp and wonder a bit.      I dug and moved tons of soil, using pick, shovel and wheelbarrow, to form rockeries, and aid drainage.      We had just had trellis put up across the garden to separate front from back.      But the ground was still barren, hard brown clay, with hardly a plant. T.... could see what I had in mind, or the very way it would appear.      I only finished it all, about the time we decided to sell the house.

I could easily have left out the hazy unconfirmed blocks.   Had I done so, the effect would have been very convincing.   It just wouldn't have been fair though, to everyone concerned.   One shouldn't expect every scrap that comes through to be precise, and immediately recognizable.   A daily record of unusual events is essential, no matter how trivial a coincidence may seem.   In time, just like the three 'red block' predictions, all will become clear.  Again, you just have to be very patient.
