When we can answer these questions truthfully to ourselves, then we shall have a better idea of our place in the eternal plan. We are conditioned in this world to believe that all of our thoughts are our own and the product of our mind, the brain that controls every function of our physical bodies. When ever we say or think "I", or "myself", we imagine only the being that is oneself. This is the main blockage that has to be overcome in extending our spiritual awareness.
The Genetic "You"
The plain and simple fact is that there are two 'You's', if not more. When we think of ourselves, we are conditioned to imagine that we are totally within our bodies, and 'I' or 'Me' is that self that dwells within the borders of our skin, hair, and nails. The truth may be far more complex than this simple idea of oneself. Have a look at some of the evidence, and then ask yourself if you really are who you think you are.
If you have looked at "Readings" you may recall that one of the first things that was put to me, was that I was doing my Family Tree. Not only was this stressed, but I was urged to get back to it, and told that it was very important. I could never quite see why an interest which is entirely based on one's ancestry should mean so much in the Spiritual World. There has to be some good reason. I may have found out why from watching a recent "Crossing Over" show with John Edward. He came to a lady who said yes she did know her gt.grandparents names. John looked at her quizzically, and she then said that she had been doing Family Research. At this he flung his head back, and said something like 'Oh God, Genealogy'. John then explained that this invariably meant that he would get people back to the 1700's and 1800's coming through. He said it was because she knew their names, and that in itself, gave them the energy to come through. Many times in the past, he has said on the show, that it so important to pray for people, and that this sends them energy.
Could it be more than that though? Could it be that part of our spiritual being is wrapped up in our genes, and these add an everlasting dimension to our inner character. Are we being formed in each lifetime, not only by the lessons we learn, but also by what we inherit. If not then we would shed all those characteristics with the physical body when we leave it for the other side. I doubt whether this is so, as time after time, people being read have remarked that they recognise the humour and stature of the loved one who is coming through. Or, are they just donning those attitudes once more in order to be recognised?
This is a crucial question which is apparent when we think how somebody like Hitler may have been formed. Did he for instance, come into his lifetime as Adolf Hitler with such evil ideas, or were they all developed from who he was and from the experiences that he underwent as a child and then as a soldier in the First World War? Will they have stayed with him in whatever part of the Other World that the evil are despatched to? Might he have been able to divest his soul of the terrible deeds that he did, or have they caused him to be sent to some fiery cauldron of purification and recycling?
Crossing Physical and Spiritual Boundaries
Scientific studies are now being conducted on people who have received transplant organs. One lady who received a liver found that after the transplant she developed a craving for a certain take-away food, and had a growing interest for rap music and kick boxing. She managed to track down the family of the donor and sure enough these were all things that the young lad had been into. Another lady had a dream after receiving a heart and was given the name of the boy who had died together with the words, "Together Forever". She too was able to find the donor's family and verify that the name was indeed his. Not only that but the two words are etched on to his grave stone.
These are not isolated incidents. Apparently there are hundreds of such cases, if not thousands of donor recipients who have taken on new characteristics and interests after an operation. So what is really happening? The answer is believed to be that our memories are not contained solely within the brain, but can be carried around the body in the bloodstream, and stored in all of our vital organs, and tissue.
It may simply be that these particular 'memories' are just physical. There might however be something more involved in the process. During one operation a psychic specialising in healing energy was allowed into the Theatre. When she placed her hands over the heart before it was installed in the recipient, she suddenly had a flash vision of the motor accident that had caused the donor's death, and was able to describe it perfectly. In this case memory was jumping empty space from the heart to the psychic. Gary Schwartz, the Scientist who has been studying this phenomena explains that memory is energy, and our energy is transmitted out through the skin and beyond the body where it can be sensed by another person. When one donor recipient was given a reading by John Edward, he was confused for a while having picked up on a second energy that he said was connected, yet not a part of her family.
Supposing that that new memory actually changes a person's behaviour, perhaps causing them to take some action in life that they wouldn't have done beforehand, where does that leave the Soul? Are they fully responsible; is it an intended part of life's lesson; or excusable?
Spiritual Memories
Many psychiatrists now use past life regression to clear away phobias picked up in a previous lifetime. These memories are not carried from generation to generation by cellular memory, for there are ample cases where there has been no family connection whatsoever from the past life to the patient. Some have not only been from one family to another, but have involved a change of race and country.
Evidently one's character and personality is being forged both genetically and spiritually. What probably matters, is where we go from there.
A Universal Consciousness?
The Gnostics taught that God is within ourselves and every living thing. We know from quantum physics that all matter in the Universe is connected in some yet unknown way. What if the whole Universe and everything particle within it is part of some kind of Brain? If this were so, we might be nothing more than brain cells ourselves.
There is one school of thought that puts forward the theory that all information received by intuitive minds, (for example a reading by a medium), is being drawn from a some such Universal Memory Bank. This is not a new idea and is described by Walter Germain in his book, "The Magic Power Of Your Mind", published in 1956. Spiritualists too believe that there is a memory of everything we do kept in the Akashic Records.
Recently Scientists have been examining "Savants" with brain scans, in an endeavour to find out how they access the incredible powers which they display. The term "Imbecile Savant" was originally coined by the French to describe autistic people who have some genius like strange gift. Today they are just referred to as 'Savants'. It can be displayed in a number of ways, the more usual being the ability to name a day for any date in the calendar, complicated mathematical calculations, a memory for everything they read and see, or being a genius in one of the arts.
Whilst Scientists are looking for some area of the brain that can perform miraculous and instantaneous computations, this cannot be the answer. There is practically no delay whatsoever in their providing a correct answer, and those who rattle off difficult and lengthy passages on the piano would have no time at all to think about what they are doing. It is much more likely that they are tapping directly into some other intelligence. In the Savant, brain scans show that the cells which link the left and right hemispheres are activated. A normal person concentrating on some mathematical problem also uses these same connecting cells, but other pinpoints light up elsewhere in the brain. So just what connection is being used by the Savants. Could they be linking to an outside source?
Confirmation From the Other Side
At this point in putting down these thoughts, I decided to call it a day. During the night, I had a strange dream which I couldn't recall after waking up, apart from some final words which were very clear and 'loud'. As I slipped into consciousness they remained in mind, and I felt that I had just been told something very important - "Ideas Are Made in Heaven" My eyes were irritating, and after a few moments I turned to bathe them, noticing the time as I did so. It was 3.33am. Seeing the '33' reinforced the notion that the message I had just been given was real and given to me to help in my quest for knowledge.
The Rock of Ages You
The being, the energy, that is you, resides not only within yourself but also within many an inanimate object that you treasure. This can be demonstrated through the psychic gift of psychometry. Derek Acorah is an adept at this, and can sense and reveal some of the energy left behind and stored in antique objects. Is this energy just a memory, a ghost of something that was? This is the sceptical view, and is put forward by them to explain hauntings in old and ancient buildings. They say that as foundations settle or when there may be some slight movement in the ground, then bricks and stones grinding against each other release this energy which might then be perceived as a ghost.
This just doesn't explain the additional information that is being picked up by psychics like Derek Acorah.
Very often as Derek allows the energy emanations from an antique to course within himself, he exhibits the character of whoever had once owned the object. In one demonstration he found himself reliving the Battle of Rorke's Drift as a soldier facing the Zulu enemy. In another he played once more the act of a comedian cum clown upon the Stage. These could have been memories, but the description of some enormous heavenly amphitheatre where he now performs is knowledge that was created after the owner of the object crossed over. We have to conclude that the antique with its stored memory energy is but a trigger to bring in the Spirit of its past owner.
If those Scientists who now theorise that there are 11 dimensions and an infinite number of Parallel Universes - see parallel universes - then there may be an infinite number of "You" living different lives in each of those unseen worlds. Movies like "Nightmare Street" and "Sliding Doors" illustrate just how close those worlds may be. There might very well be only a thin veil separating the 'You' that you think you are, from one of the other "You's".
Assuming that all those other Universes do exist, then are those other "You's" quite different entities each with their own individual free choice? Perhaps Not. Scientists' Membrane Theory has it that all matter is connected in some way. For the time being let's just think of our personal energy vibrating across time and universe divides as one piece of the incromprehensible Jigsaw of Consciousness.
Singularity
Ever since Einstein came up with his theory of relativity, Scientists have been looking for 'Singularity' - the one theory that will explain everything. Is our soul searching quest something akin to this? Does the Universal Consciousness encompass not only the living but also what we perceive to be inanimate matter such as The Earth, Planets, Sun, and Stars?
In another presentation of Derek Acorah and family antiques, he himself said that what he was picking up seemed to be absolutely crazy. A wooden cabinet itself was telling him that it wanted to be reunited with other pieces of furniture. It was feeling desperately isolated and lonely. It needed to be with a clock which had once been in the same room, and to have some books replaced on its shelves. The present owners confirmed that furntiure they had inherited had been split apart, and that the clock no longer worked. Derek was convinced that it would start again if it was ever reunited with the cabinet.
It is so hard for our simple minds to accept such a wild idea that lifeless objects could have feelings. Instead of rejecting it outright maybe we should give it a moment's thought. Even a lump of rock is on the move at a sub-atomic level. It's electrons, protons, photons, leptons and whatever else there is at that level, revolve around a nucleus. They are not frozen still. Introduce a little heat and not only will they speed up, but some particles may fly off into space. It looks like there is indeed a pressing need to be one again with all that is in our Universe and others.
