Christ in the Alps

Some time in the mid to late 1940's, a pilot flying over the Alps was amazed to see the face of Christ in the snowy landscape spread out below him.     The picture that he took was published in one of Britain's Sunday newspapers, and became the talking point in offices and canteens around the country.    One of the reasons that it attracted so much attention was that not everyone could see it.     For many it was simply another photograph of snow and mountainous peaks.

Like the 'magic eye' pictures of more recent years that spring into a 3D image when looked at in a certain perspective, the 'Christ of the Alps' photo' was glaringly obvious when one focussed on a certain point.

There was something else in the image that words can hardly describe.    Perhaps it was some sadness in the expression that stirred the soul.

Time passed and the photograph became a forgotten memory.

More recently another image has appeared in the Alps, and quite different from the first.     Take a look at this face of Christ and see if you can pick out even more faces from the clouds.

Burning Holes in the Clouds.

Who hasn't lain on their back on some golden strand or meadowed hillside, idly gazing up at drifting clouds crossing the blue firmament?     It is so long ago now, since first I passed such moments picking out figures formed by clumps of flocculent cumulous.     One day tiring of this particular diversion, I fancied that the thinner veils of heavenly vapour were melting away wherever I concentrated my observation.     Picking on a more substantial clump, a hole gradually opened up after a while, as if I had burned through the cloud purely by the energy of thought.

Perhaps it was simply a part of the ever-changing structure of the cloud, and no more than a coincidence.     Only in recent years with the advent of the Net, have I discovered that others have manipulated the clouds in like manner.     So, maybe it is possible to use the power of our minds to form images out of those puffs of nebulous moisture.

If we really can do that, then how much easier would it be for our spiritual selves whose entire existence is conjured up from thought?

The World Trade Towers

It is now well known that in the pictures taken of the collapsing towers just after the infamous attack, there are clouds of smoke where devilish faces, perhaps the Devil himself, have appeared.     There are several web sites that carry a variety of these photographs, such as this one also entitled 'Faces'.

John Edward Hutton....His Apparition in the Bathroom Curtain.

Spiritual manifestations can be very disturbing for our minds conditioned over a life time only to perceive only objects which we can identify as solid and belonging to the physical world.     This may be why they so often come to us in dreams, or by blending into something that we can more readily accept.     Be it the wright path or wrong I have related this event on my page of ghosts.

From "The Cairns Post Calendar" to House Tiles.

At the start of 2002 The Cairns Post issued a calendar with some historic photographs relating to the City's history.     The large centre picture was of the Cairns to Kuranda railway and a bridge that had just been completed in 1885.     The rock face at the back was teeming with faces and figures.    The more I examined it, the more there were in the undergrowth and bushes.     I think this is when I first gave the matter some serious thought.    As always, in such circumstances, one can only speculate and wonder.

I had already noticed more faces in our curtains and tiles, but now I began to study them, and eventually was able to pick up one countenance after another.    There are so many in our house tiles, of every kind imaginable.      Within those shaded manifestations there are men, women and children carrying the most expressive looks.    I have spotted Vikings, Knights, and fearsome bearded faces, along with appealing stares arousing compelling curiosity as to whether they were once real people.      I can have little doubt in this, for how on earth could a random mixture set so clearly the trappings of Edwardian and Victorian clothing, and hairstyles?

Some faces overlap others, or hold within each feature, miniatures of many more.     The angle and perspective has to be just right.     A slight movement of one's head, and more pictures spring to life.     One night I noticed that one apparition in a curtain actually moved.    It started with the face looking sideways, then gradually it turned until it was facing me, and then slowly towards the opposite direction.    I couldn't take my eyes away.    When at last I blinked, the whole performance started off again.      In the light of a new day, there was nothing to be seen in the curtain.     Later, I discovered that these faces only became discernible under artificial light shining through the net curtain on to the wire screen behind.     Yet these images were no less clearly defined.

What is Going On?

Assuming that these ghostly faces were once alive, just how have they fixed themselves in simple tiles?    Can it be some attempt to perpetuate their features in some solid material?    And why?     It is understandable that they may impinge their images upon family films taken shortly after their demise, in an attempt to show that they still exist.     But, what could be the purpose of so many wandering spirits popping up for fleeting moments in clouds and trees, and for ages in more permament objects?

If you have seen faces or can relate to this phenomena, and have your own theory why it is happening, let Malcolm know your story.
