Always ask permission from the breeder if you wish to show your new kitten. Usually it is approved without a problem, but be aware that the competition in the show ring is top class. If you get too disappointed, then showing might not be to your liking.

Your breeder will tell you what you have to do to show the kitten and where you get show entry forms and a copy of show rules from. It is not difficult and can be a very enjoyable experience. You might even progress, if you wish, to becoming a breeder. There is a lot to learn, believe me. You will need "show curtains" nail clippers, a good carry cage, towels, shampoo and copies of your cat's paperwork. Your kitten is expected to be presented in "top show condition" - always very clean and free from parasites. You need to keep vaccinations up to date and you must stay at the show venue until all judging is completed. Also ask your breeder what class & group your kitten/cat must be entered in. Also get your cat used to traveling and sitting in a cage for long periods of time.

All show cats are judged by a standard and it is a good idea for you to read the Burmese standard. Copies are available from the Cat Council where your kitten is registered.

If you enjoy all of this then you might also like to join a Cat Club. Ask and you will be welcomed, I'm sure.

Make sure you do not allow the pet to roam the street.

Never, ever, put a cat out at night.

Make sure your kitten has a warm cosy bed and protection from the weather. Worm and vaccinate as per instructions from the vet or breeder.

If the kitten is going to be left alone more often than not, then you should consider getting two kittens so that they keep each other company.

Feed fresh raw meat - do not feed cats "junk" food!

Toxic to Cats:

Most Houseplants and all Lillies.

Lots of shrubs, including azaleas.
