It's Saturday so we slept in. Today we are planning to drive to Mission Beach for two nights at the Dunk Island View CP in Wongaling Beach about 4kms south of Mission Beach. We packed up and were away by 9:30am, programmed the Navman GPS and just followed the instructions she gave us. In no time we were on the Bruce Highway heading out of Townsville. I had not topped up the LPG before leaving thinking there would be plenty of fuel stops along the highway. A couple of hundred kms along the highway having passed through Ingham, Cardwell and a couple of smaller places and the LPG running out I was starting to think I would have to pay out for some unleaded. But luckily we found a Shell servo in Tully and filled up the tank just in time..
We stopped for a lunch break in Cardwell and bought some nice pies from a lady selling them from a stall on the side of the road. Very tasty!!
Soon we were following the Tully - Mission Beach road through rainforest and canefields. Apparently there are a lot of Cassowaries living in the forest and have a habit of running out on to the road. So we had to be careful whilst driving through this area.
We booked into the CP and then had a quick look around the area. What can I say, look out to sea and see Dunk Island off the coast. To the south you have a number of other smaller islands. You can't miss it , it's huge!! Tomorrow is a rest day, planning to sleep in and catch up with some reading.

27 Jul 08 Day 57
What a beautiful day to wake up to. If we had the money we would move here permanently, it is that magic!! We had a late breakfast and watched the overnighters departing. Simple minds simple things to do!! About 10'nish we drove to the local cricket pitch and walked around the Sunday Markets looking at all the stalls. Geraldine wanted a new hat so she bought one. We then drove to South Mission Beach and walked on the sand admiring the views of the Islands and the houses up on the hill overlooking the Bay. For the rest of the day we lounged around the van reading and watching the newbies coming in. Life is Good!

We are set up in the Cool Waters CP in Cairns, arriving yesterday afternoon just after lunch. The trip up from Mission Beach was uneventful and the traffic on the highway wasn't too bad either. We passed through Innisfail and babinda and before we knew it we were on the main road into Cairns. Programmed the Navman for the CP location and we drove through the streets like locals. The Navman is great for getting around the streets of towns that you are not familiar with.
Today we did some shopping and looked up a sat tv shop to have a look at our dish. We are booked in tomorrow to check the system. In the afternoon we took a drive out to the Copperlode Dam and Morris Lake. This drive was through pristine rainforest along a narrow road that wound its way up to the top of the ranges. Several lookouts overlooked the City of Cairns. Morris Lake is situated 400m above sea level. When you look from the lookouts it looks higher.
