 KALGOORLIE

01-09-2007    -    DAY 8Hannan Street, Kalgoorlie.
Saturday, the first day of Spring.  Spent the morning visiting Bunnings to find bits and pieces for the van.  Tried to fix the front right stabiliser but no luck.  Will have to leave it till either Perth or home.  Walked around the main street in Kalgoorlie and had coffee at 'Dome' and looked in a few shops. Then went looking for the auto carwash in Hannan Street and found that the machine jammed up when I inserted the coins.  Tried the phone number for troubles but found that to be switched off.  Will contact the manager on Monday and see if I can get the money ($10) back. In the afternoon watched the  football for a while and had a sleep.  Still waking up with the birds so by mid afternoon tiredness sets in.   In the evening we went to the Hog's Breath Restaurant with Tim ,Karen and Danielle.

02-09-2007    -    DAY 9The 'Super pit' getting deeper all the time.
Slept in Sunday morning because it was Father's Day  and Geraldine was preparing breakfast today.  After breakfast we drove to the local IGA where they have a car-wash and cleaned the car.  Don't know how we are going to clean the front of the van yet as there is a ban on washing vans and cars at the park.  The van picked up a lot of mud  when we drove through the roadworks outside Balladonia. Probably have to wait for a rain squal to pass over!  Went for a drive to look at the 'Superpit'.  It looked like they had dug another 50-60 metres further down from the last time we saw it in June 2006. In the afternoon we joined up with Karen, Tim and Danielle and went to a recreation park where we spent some time chucking balls around.   In the evening we had dinner at their place and arrived back at the van park by 9pm.

03-09-2007    -    DAY 10Exchange Hotel in Hannan Street.
This morning I sorted out some business at the local carwash which owed me $10 from Saturday morning when it jammed up.  The manager gave me back my money and a handfull of carwash tokens. for our troubles.  I thanked him for his generosity and made a mental note to use the tokens before we leave town.   We then did some shopping for a birthday present at Target for Danielle who will be 8 years old next Saturday.  Bought a new grey water hose at the local Camping Store.   After we arrived back at the CP I had another go at fixing the front stabiliser and this time I had some success.  Went to the front office and paid up till 14th Sept.  After lunch had a restful afternoon checking emails and working on the web site.

04-09-2007 - DAY 11

Did some shopping at Woollies this morning to top up the groceries. Afterwards we drove to the 'Superpit' lookout again to see if the blasting was going to happen.  Found out that they now clear the lookout area for safety reasons so we wouldn't be able to see it anyway.  In the afternoon we vegged out at the van before tea.  In the evening we went to Karen 's place for a visit. Tim has a home network set up so I used my laptop to connect to it and do a bit of internet surfing and checking emails.

05-09-2007    -    DAY 12

Slept a bit longer last night.  Must be getting used to the enviroment.  At night you can hear the low drone of machinery in the distance, which is the 'Superpit' at work, 24 hrs a day.  A bit of house cleaning, laundry and emptying the cassette this morning. We refuelled the car today then got a call from Karen at work asking if we could arrange to get some lunch to Dannie at the school cause she had left it at home.  We obliged and also picked  Dannie up after school and looked after her at the CP until Mum came to pick her up.  Lots of vans arrived today so all sites around us are full.  Had a glass of red at happy hour time at 5:30pm. Tonight we are dining at Karen's place. Found that the home network connection from the previous night had hijacked my internet explorer so spent some time uninstalling the files so that I could get websites through my Next G connection.

06-09-2007     -    DAY 13Mining dump trucks line up !

Spent a quiet day doing a bit of shopping at K-mart, and Bunnings.  Geraldine had promised Dannie that she would  fix her 'Sleeping Beauty' dress so that she could wear it to school tomorrow for a 'Theme Day' .   I took the opportunity to get some plumbing supplies to fix the sullage hose connection to the van.  We had morning coffee at the Kaos Cafe and then arranged to meet up with Karen who was going to shop for a birthday present.  We then had lunch at Subway before heading back to the van in the afternoon.  Spent an hour fixing the hose connection.  Karen brought Dannie around after school for an hour before heading off for home. In the evening we watched TV and vegged out.

07-09-2007    -    DAY 14Geraldine, Karen and Danielle at the Superpit Lookout.

I woke early this morning (0600am) so decided to go for a walk into Boulder, about 3 kms away.   Picked up the local paper at the corner shop on the way back.  That's twice this week I have done the morning exercise walk. Later in the morning we went for a coffee with Karen in town.  Then we did some grocery shopping at Woollies  before returning to the van park.  In the afternoon  we stayed at the van park .  Karen and Dannie visited after school  for afternoon tea again.   They then went home to get ready to go to a concert later tonight.  We will stay home and watch the NRL elimination game between the Warriors and Eels.
