Sunset on Semaphore Beach

The Test Run

03 Jan 2006    -    Alice Springs to Adelaide and Moonta Bay

We left Alice Springs about 7am in the morning hoping to get to Coober Pedy by mid afternoon. We booked into the Big 4  Oasis Tourist Park for the night($18 per night).  The trip was uneventful, the Falcon towed the van ok. In the evening we watched TV after dinner.  Had some European tourists in a hired Winnebago next to us and they kept their noisy air-con on all night.

04 Jan 2006

We had another uneventful drive to Port Augusta today. Stopped for fuel in Glendambo and Pimba and on arrival booked into the  Big 4 Holiday Park for the night ($22per night).

05 Jan    -    11 Jan 2006

Drove on to Adelaide and parked in the backyard of the in-laws for the week. Visited our family and generally chilled out at home. Daughter's birthday on 7th and Mother's on 11th were celebrated with a BBQ.

Moonta Bay jetty

19 Jan    -    21 Jan 2006

Booked into Moonta Bay Caravan Park ($28 per night) for a couple of days so that we could visit an old work mate from Alice who lives there now.  Had a great time but it was very hot. Temp around 45°c. Uncomfortable during the day, the van's air-con was unable to keep up with it. Whilst we were here we drove around the Yorke Peninsula for a quick gander and also to keep cool in the car with the aircon on.  Had lunch at Edithburgh Hotel.  Saw the big wind farm outside the town.  We will plan to visit this area again in the future.

22 Jan 2006

Drove to Pt Augusta and booked in at the Big 4 again for the night.  Had a big headwind all the way from the north.  Finally got a cool change blowing through from the south in the evening.

23 Jan 2006

Drove to Coober Pedy and booked in at Oasis Tourist Park ( $18 per night) for the night.  Still hot but bearable now. Tailwind most of the way.

24 Jan 2006

Drove through to Alice Springs and arrived there mid-afternoon.  Will have the air-con checked before our next trip.  We were not set up for free camping during this trip so stayed mostly in C.P.s.  The trip was enjoyable most of the time, a bit hot for my liking on some days but otherwise the Falcon performed well and the van was comfortable.  We are happy that we bought it.
