How the AIM Church came to use these symbols.

In 1987 Michael Jones and I attended an ABMS Training Camp held at an outstation near Yuendumu, NW of Alice Springs.

It was there that we came to appreciate the versatility of these symbols.

Michael Jones explaining a story.

When we spoke to the Tennant Creek church leaders there was some hesitation about accepting this art form for use in church, but after Jerry Jangala visited TC and explained that the "old men" had given permission for certain symbols to be used, and that the Christians in Lajamanu had no problem with the art form, the opposition evaporated.

Elizabeth Johnson a member of the AIM church in Tennant Creek has developed her own style of Christian art.

ABMS gave AIM permission to use the symbols, and for that we are very grateful, as it has empowered the people to express themselves in a readily understandable and effective medium. Non Aboriginal people have been greatly challenged and encouraged by this art form.
