Would you like to build a bigger better begonia or a smaller more compact one with red spots or silver stripes? Why not try? This web site explains how you can do it yourself and have fun while doing it. John and Helen Clare have been Hybridizing Begonias for about 12 years, and have produced many unusual begonias, many are well sort after all over the world. This site displays all Clare's Hybrid Begonias that have been created over the years.

TYPE - There is a wide variety of begonias grown today, this page has a picture and a description of each variety of plant.

CULTURAL NOTES - Begonias can be grown in the garden, in pots in a shade house or on a windowsill; they can be grown indoors under lights or in a terrarium. This page tells you how to fertilize, water, which potting mixes are best to grow begonias in, as well as how to repot a begonia.

DISEASES - Gives you a detailed discription of pests and diseases and how to help you get rid of them.These will vary depending on your climate, the pests and diseases that are mentioned can cause problems for growers in southest Queensland.

PROPAGATION - There are two different methods of propagating, by seed and by division of some kind usually be cuttings.The propagating section tells you how to propagate begonias from leaf cuttings and wedges.

HYBRIDIZING - A quick rundown on the procedure of hybridizing, also how to select the parents and which ones are dominant, and how to cross pollinate the flowers.

BEGONIAS - This page gives a brief description of many of Clare's Hybrid Begonias and a picture when available.

PARENTAGE - Tells you the parents of each begonia, NOTE the female is always first. This parentage list was compiled in August 2002 and will be updated regularly though out the year with new begonias.

PHOTO GALLERY - There are around 120 photos of Clare's Hybrid begonias. Photos will be added as new ones become available.

PROFILE - Tells how John and Helen first started hybridizing and propagating begonias.
